Job Description

In this role, you will assist in preparing, displaying, and merchandising all bistro food items for sale, ensuring each meal not only meets but exceeds the standard expectations. Your passion for food and cooking will be a key contributor to developing and presenting outstanding prepared foods for various meal periods and catered events. Responsibilities extend beyond cooking to include menu development, customer service, order management, and event facilitation. The role requires working closely with deli and bistro team leads, executive chefs, and the catering director to meet goals relating to sales, quality, product presentation, and customer satisfaction. The Gourmet Chef must actively engage with customers by offering product information, samples, and courteous service filled with genuine appreciation. Maintaining compliance with all applicable health, safety, and regulatory requirements is paramount. The position is physically demanding, requiring prolonged standing, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, walking, and other related activities. Job Requirements

  • must be 18 years of age
  • must be able to stand, sit, lift up to 50 pounds, push, bend and walk for extended periods
  • must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • must maintain a positive and friendly attitude
  • must comply with all health and safety policies
  • must have strong communication skills
  • internal transfers/promotions/rehire candidates must have current leader recommendation
  • rehires must be approved by HRBP
  • may be asked to accept part-time position
  • must be 21 years of age for positions that serve alcohol

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • previous culinary experience preferred
  • strong creativity and passion for food and cooking
  • excellent communication and customer service skills
  • ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • experience with menu planning and food presentation
  • knowledge of health, safety and sanitation regulations
  • skills in salesmanship and client/vendor relations
  • teamwork and collaboration abilities

Job Duties

  • assisting in the preparation, display, and merchandising of all bistro foods for sale
  • working with deli/bistro team lead and/or executive chef to achieve sales, product quality, presentation and customer service goals
  • planning, developing and presenting various menus with creativity and expertise
  • answering phones and taking special orders
  • maintaining a positive and friendly attitude towards customers and team members
  • engaging with customers by providing product information, selling suggestions, active sampling and genuine thank you
  • facilitating catered events from planning to conclusion
  • collaborating with catering director and executive chef on menu planning to ensure profitability and standards
  • demonstrating excellent communication and salesmanship with clients and vendors
  • maintaining open communication with deli/bistro department, catering department, manager and executive chef
  • ensuring compliance with all health department and regulatory policies, laws and requirements
  • controlling food cost by monitoring production and implementing reworks
  • performing all other related duties as assigned
