The role of Assistant Deli Team Lead serves as a critical support and leadership position within the deli/bistro department. The Assistant Deli Team Lead functions as a team leader in training, helping to guide the department team towards meeting and exceeding their goals and objectives. In the absence of the Deli/Bistro Team Leader, the Assistant assumes full responsibility for directing personnel, maintaining department operations, and communicating with store management and other department supervisors. This role involves supervising food preparation, merchandising, inventory management, product ordering, and customer service activities.
The Assistant Deli Team Lead is expected to be highly knowledgeable about deli and bistro products, ensuring the highest level of quality, freshness, and safety. They play a hands-on role in overseeing the preparation and proper display of a variety of foods, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner entrees, fried items, roasted chickens, pizzas, prepared salads, and sandwiches. They are responsible for maintaining product rotation, freshness, food safety, and sanitation standards, and for keeping all sales and work areas clean, organized, and safe.
In addition to operational leadership, the assistant is also involved in administrative duties such as ordering supplies, auditing invoices, managing inventory in storage areas and walk-in coolers or freezers, and ensuring accurate product pricing and signage are maintained. The position requires a person who works safely with sharp equipment and hot appliances, prioritizes customer satisfaction by ensuring orders are completed timely and accurately, and supports the overall success of the deli/bistro department.

Job Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age
- must be 21 years of age for positions involving alcohol service
- ability to stand and sit for extended periods
- ability to lift and stock up to 50 pounds
- ability to safely handle sharp tools and operate hot ovens and burners
- working availability as per store needs
- approval by current leader for internal transfers or rehire if applicable
- willingness to accept part-time position if full-time not available
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- prior experience in food service, preferably in deli or grocery environment
- leadership or supervisory experience is a plus
- knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
- strong customer service skills
- ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- good communication and organizational skills
- ability to lift and stock items up to 50 pounds
- familiarity with merchandising standards
Job Duties
- Directing department personnel in the absence of the Deli/Bistro Team Leader
- meeting department goals and objectives
- communicating with store director and department supervisors
- ordering products and supplies to maintain stock levels
- overseeing preparation and merchandising of deli/bistro food items including entrees, fried foods, roasted chickens, pizzas, salads, and sandwiches
- displaying deli/bistro merchandise following company guidelines
- rotating deli/bistro items for quality, safety, and shrink control
- meeting food safety and sanitation guidelines
- receiving, auditing, and stocking merchandise and supplies
- monitoring product pricing, signage, and placement
- maintaining cleanliness and order in sales counters, prep areas, warehouse shelving, and coolers
- working safely with sharp slicers and hot equipment
- taking customer orders and ensuring satisfaction
- performing related duties as assigned
