The role of Assistant Bakery Team Lead is a pivotal leadership position within the bakery department. You are responsible for directing bakery personnel, managing inventory, ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations, and supporting merchandising initiatives. In the absence of the bakery manager, the Assistant Bakery Team Lead will manage all bakery operations.

This role requires excellent communication skills to liaise efficiently with the bakery manager, store director, and bakery specialist. A key part of your responsibilities will be ordering supplies, maintaining product stock levels, and overseeing the proper display and merchandising of bakery goods according to company standards. Customer engagement is central to this role — you will interact with customers through greetings, product knowledge, suggestive selling, active sampling, and general customer appreciation.

The Assistant Bakery Team Lead also contributes to the overall store environment by keeping work areas clean, orderly, and well-organized. You will handle various tasks including processing sales transactions with cash registers, ensuring accurate product pricing and signage, managing product rotation to retain quality and freshness, and assisting other store departments as needed. This role also involves coaching, training, and evaluating bakery team members, positioning you as a role model and leader committed to fostering a positive team culture.

This is a full-time, hands-on leadership role that balances customer service excellence with operational management. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior experience in bakery or food service preferred
  • strong leadership and team management skills
  • capability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • excellent customer service skills
  • physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
  • ability to follow health and safety regulations
  • reliable attendance
  • must be at least 18 years old

Job Duties

  • Directing bakery department personnel, meeting department's goals and objectives
  • managing bakery when the bakery manager is not on duty
  • communicating with bakery manager, store director, and bakery specialist
  • ordering supplies and products to maintain stock levels
  • merchandising bakery goods following bakery merchandising standards
  • enforcing store rules and company policies among team members
  • executing and supporting sales and merchandising initiatives
  • serving as leader, coach, performance evaluator and trainer for team
  • ensuring compliance with health department and weights and measures requirements
  • maintaining positive attitude towards customers and team members
  • engaging customers through greetings, product information, suggestive selling, active sampling and thank yous
  • providing fast and friendly customer service
  • processing cash register transactions including change, checks, EBTs and refunds
  • using scale printer machine and ensuring correct weights and pricing
  • monitoring product pricing, signage, placement and shelf tags
  • keeping work areas clean, neat and orderly
  • wrapping, boxing, weighing, slicing, finishing and stocking bakery products
  • rotating products to ensure quality and safety
  • taking and completing customer orders on time and to satisfaction
  • performing all other related duties as assigned
