Pegaso is a Spanish manufacturer renowned for producing a diverse range of vehicles. These include trucks, buses, tractors, armored vehicles, and sports cars for a period.

Established in 1946, the company was initially known as Enasa (Empresa Nacional de Autocamiones S.A.). It operated from the historic Hispano-Suiza factory in Barcelona under the leadership of automotive engineer Wifredo Ricart.

Notable Vehicles

In the 1950s, Pegaso introduced the Z-102 sports car, a model that stood out for advanced engineering and performance capabilities.

This vehicle featured a five-speed rear-mounted transaxle and powerful all-aluminum DOHC engines. It was one of the fastest production cars of its time, capable of reaching speeds up to 155 mph.

Main Business Focus

The company's primary focus, however, was on commercial and military vehicles.

Pegaso's trucks and buses became common sights on European roads, with significant exports to several regions:

• Cuba
• Egypt (notably supplying tactical trucks to the Egyptian Army in the late 1970s)

Transition and Legacy

In 1990, Pegaso was acquired by the Italian company Iveco, leading to the gradual phasing out of the Pegaso brand.

The last Pegaso Troner truck rolled off the production line in 1994, and the final Pegaso engine was manufactured in 1995.

Despite the brand's discontinuation, Iveco continued to use the Pegaso name for certain military vehicle models in Spain for a few years before fully transitioning to the Iveco brand.
