Las Palmas Cantina was a vibrant Mexican seafood restaurant and bar located in downtown Chandler, Arizona. Established in May 2018, it aimed to bring the coastal flavors and relaxed ambiance of the Mexican Riviera to the heart of Chandler's burgeoning culinary scene.
The restaurant's interior featured a lively elevated deck area reminiscent of beachside cafes, complemented by garage-style doors that connected the indoor and outdoor spaces. This design allowed patrons to enjoy the warm Arizona weather while dining.
Chef Michael O'Dowd, known for his innovative approach to cuisine, led the kitchen. He crafted a "sand-to-table" menu that emphasized fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Dishes included lighter fare, shared plates, and street-style bites, with highlights such as ceviches infused with tropical flavors and hints of curries and gingers.
Specialty tropical cocktails and craft-brewed Mexican-style beers complemented the menu, featuring tequila, mezcal, and rum-based drinks reminiscent of Mexican agua frescas.
Despite its promising concept, Las Palmas Cantina faced challenges in resonating with the Chandler community. In December 2019, owner Julian Wright announced the closure of the Chandler location, with plans to introduce a new concept in its place.
The last day of operation was December 31, 2019, and the new establishment, Chandler Yacht Club, was expected to open in February 2020.
