Established in December 1969 as Mrs. C's in Des Moines, Iowa, the restaurant quickly gained popularity for its pies. Pillsbury acquired Mrs. C's around that time, rebranding it as Poppin' Fresh Pies and expanding its presence.

In 1983, VICORP, the parent company of the Village Inn restaurant chain, purchased Poppin' Fresh Pies from Pillsbury. The chain was then renamed Bakers Square, marking a new chapter in its growth and brand identity.

As of June 2025, Bakers Square operates seven locations across several states. The chain is owned by BBQ Holdings, Inc., which also owns other restaurant brands.
