April Business Travel to the US Declines by 9%
In April 2025, business travel to the United States decreased by 9% year-over-year, reflecting growing caution among global companies amid economic uncertainty and geopolitical tensions. While some regions like the Middle East experienced a slight increase of 9.4%, demand from Europe and Canada sharply declined.
Specifically, Western Europe saw a 17.7% drop and air trips to Canada fell by 20%, with car trips decreasing by 35%. Leisure travel rebounded sharply (+13.8%) during the Easter period, contrasting with the softer business segment, which is expected to face further declines.
Industry figures reveal 12% fewer summer bookings from Europe to major U.S. cities, and several airlines have downgraded their financial forecasts due to weak leisure demand. Experts like Leslie Andrews forecast that companies will prioritize purposeful travel, signaling cautious outlooks for the rest of 2025, especially in Canadian and international conference markets.
