Position: Population Health Epidemiologist I
About: Located in the largest jurisdiction in the National Capitol Region, the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) is a progressive public health leader serving 1.2 million residents from diverse ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Committed to promoting population health, protecting public health and the environment, and achieving equity in health services and outcomes, this position offers support for efforts directed towards monitoring population health and well-being, understanding factors impacting health status, disparities, and inequities, with a focus on mental health and substance use issues. The role also involves contributing to organizational performance monitoring, evaluation, and quality improvement activities through data collection, management, analysis, and reporting collaboration with other FCHD staff.
Requirements: Master’s degree in public health (MPH) or a Master of Science (MS) with graduate work in epidemiology and/or biostatistics; possession of a valid motor vehicle driver’s license; CPR and AED certification required within 60 days; completion of criminal background check, child protective services check, sanction screening, and driving records check; knowledge of public health principles and practices; experience in analyzing health disparities and issues related to health equity; experience in substance use and mental health outcomes analysis and behavioral health strategies; ability to work independently; results-driven, detail-oriented, effective communication skills
