Job Description

Zingerman's Bakehouse is a renowned and beloved artisan bakery located in Michigan, known for crafting some of the finest hand-made breads in the region. As part of the larger Zingerman's community, which includes various acclaimed food businesses, the Bakehouse takes pride in delivering exceptional quality and taste through traditional methods and high-quality ingredients. The Bakehouse team is passionate about bread-making as both a craft and a community endeavor, fostering a workplace environment where creativity, collaboration, and mutual support thrive.

Zingerman's Bakehouse is currently looking to hire a Morning Bread Mixer to join their dynamic and dedicated team. This role offers a unique opportunity for anyone who loves to work with food, enjoys a bit of flour on their hands, and wants to contribute to producing some of Michigan’s best breads. The position is full-time with 8-hour shifts scheduled between 3am and 11am, including weekend and holiday availability. Compensation starts at $16.50 per hour, with pay negotiable based on experience, and no prior experience is necessary to apply.

The Morning Bread Mixer will be an essential member of the baking team, responsible for accurately mixing dough and shaping various types of artisan bread. This role is physically active and well-suited for those who enjoy an energetic workday and the satisfaction of hands-on craft. Employees will receive thorough training in bread mixing techniques, recipe reading, and accurate measuring using digital scales, ensuring every loaf meets the Bakehouse’s high standards.

Beyond hands-on bread making, the position offers a rich learning environment described as a "bread-ucation," where employees can deepen their knowledge of naturally leavened breads, freshly milled flours, and traditional baking processes. Team members work side-by-side with managing partners who are committed to growth and fostering potential, creating a culture with no “they” but just “us.”

Working at Zingerman's Bakehouse goes beyond a typical job; it’s about being part of a community that values individuality and creative collaboration. The Bakehouse promotes a welcoming atmosphere where quirks are embraced, decisions are made collectively, and each employee’s contribution matters. Employees gain invaluable business insights through exposure to nationally recognized practices implemented throughout the Zingerman’s enterprise, providing a strong foundation for career development.

Benefits at Zingerman's Bakehouse are comprehensive and designed to support employee well-being and satisfaction. After 90 days of service, full-time employees become eligible for company-paid long-term disability, contributions toward medical and dental insurance, and a health savings account with rewards programs. The Bakehouse also offers a 401k matching program once eligibility requirements are met, paid training, paid lunch breaks, and paid time off. Additional perks include free access to an Employee Assistance Program, up to five free loaves of bread per week, significant discounts on baked goods, affordable employee lunches, reimbursement for massages, free company swag, and discounts at local businesses. Upon satisfying orientation requirements, employees receive a discount card for various Zingerman’s businesses.

This role is ideal for individuals seeking a fulfilling job in an active, creative, and community-focused environment who are eager to learn and grow professionally while making delicious artisan breads. If you enjoy being part of a team where your skills and personality are valued and want to work with a company that offers both stability and unique benefits, Zingerman’s Bakehouse invites you to apply and join their baking family.
