The role of Wrapper in Hy-Vee’s Bakery department is a vital position that ensures the highest standards in handling bakery products before they reach customers. This is a non-exempt position focused on counting, wrapping, labeling, and serving as the final product inspector before display. A Wrapper plays an essential role in maintaining product quality and presentation while offering courteous and efficient customer service. Responsibilities include interacting with customers by greeting them with a smile, answering questions, assisting with orders, and supporting the team to foster an enjoyable shopping environment. The individual in this role also follows strict sanitation and safety protocols to guarantee a clean and safe work area. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • completion of Hy-Vee Food Safety program
  • six months or less of similar or related work experience
  • ability to follow written, verbal or diagrammatic instructions
  • basic math skills
  • ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions
  • must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • must be able to perform physical activities including balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
  • able to work in a cool, damp environment with frequent noise
  • able to adhere to company dress and hygiene standards
  • able to report to work on scheduled time

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Job Duties

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions
  • smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner
  • makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible
  • assists customers by escorting them to products, securing products out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, and making note of customer suggestions
  • answers telephone promptly and provides friendly service including taking product orders
  • works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction
  • takes customer orders at the bakery counter
  • wraps, weighs, and labels product
  • applies merchandising labels to product
  • stocks cases and rotates product with emphasis on presentation
  • serves as the final inspector of product before it is displayed
  • ensures signage is correct
  • understands and practices proper sanitation procedures and keeps work area clean
  • ensures availability of advertised items and informs Bakery Manager of out-of-stock products
  • maintains adherence to personal hygiene and dress guidelines
  • adheres to company policies and store guidelines
  • reports to work on time
  • assists designer by decorating and writing on cakes in designer's absence
  • assists baker with pulling products from freezer and preparing bakery items
  • assists in other store areas as needed
  • performs other job-related duties and special projects as required
