Job Description

Front Range Community College (FRCC) is a dynamic educational institution committed to providing accessible and quality education to a diverse student population across multiple campuses in Colorado. Established as a community college, FRCC plays a pivotal role in shaping the academic and professional futures of its students through comprehensive programs, supportive resources, and a welcoming environment that fosters inclusion and diversity. The college offers a broad spectrum of educational opportunities ranging from associate degrees to workforce training, aiming to meet the needs of both traditional and non-traditional learners. FRCC is dedicated to creating a learning and working community that values cultural and ethnic diversity, equality, and respect for individual differences, making it a progressive and inclusive place for students and staff alike.

This job opportunity at FRCC is for a work-study Student Associate at Sinister Bakers Café, a vibrant on-campus cafe that combines the art of baking and customer service to create a unique, friendly, and efficient foodservice environment. The position is hourly, with a starting wage of $16.00 per hour, and offers up to 20 hours of work per week across all student work-study roles. The role is designed to support several operational areas within the café, including bakery assistance, barista services, and porter duties, providing students with comprehensive exposure to the food service industry while managing their academic commitments.

As a Bakery Assistant, the student will be responsible for the precise weighing and measuring of ingredients, assisting in the baking process, and packaging baked goods for sale. Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and food preparation area is also an integral part of this role, ensuring adherence to health and safety standards. In the barista capacity, the associate will engage with customers, mastering the Point of Sale system to efficiently process orders and payments, and prepare various craft coffee drinks tailored to customer preferences. Superior communication skills and a cheerful, friendly demeanor are essential to ensure a positive customer experience.

In addition to bakery and barista duties, the student will assist with porter tasks such as waste removal, sanitizing equipment and utensils, and upholding strict cleanliness and sanitation protocols critical to the café’s success and reputation. FRCC values soft skills such as a positive attitude, coachability, effective listening and communication, attentiveness, and curiosity. While technical skills related to baking, barista services, and sanitation can be taught, the ideal candidate must be eager to learn and engage actively with both customers and colleagues.

The role requires students to be FRCC-enrolled with a minimum of six credits for the current semester and qualify for work-study funds from Financial Aid. Though prior experience in baking, barista work, or porter duties is not mandatory, commitment to quality and high standards is expected, along with good communication, math skills, and a basic understanding of coffee and pastries being advantageous.

FRCC remains committed to equal opportunity employment, welcoming inquiries from individuals who contribute to the college’s cultural and ethnic diversity. The college also ensures compliance with the Clery Act by providing a Campus Security Report addressing safety policies, crime statistics, and reporting measures, enabling a safe and secure campus environment.

Overall, this role offers an enriching opportunity for students to develop practical skills, gain work experience, and contribute to a lively campus community while balancing their academic workload. The environment fosters growth, inclusivity, and high standards in all aspects of food service and customer interaction, making it an ideal position for students seeking professional development in hospitality and retail service.
