The Benziger Family Winery, an integral part of The Wine Group, is actively seeking enthusiastic and passionate professionals to join its dynamic Tasting Room team as Wine Specialist Tour Guides. This role encapsulates the vibrant energy and dedication to providing exceptional customer experiences at the estate’s captivating property. As a Wine Specialist Tour Guide, the incumbent will be instrumental in crafting memorable wine tasting and educational tours that highlight the unique attributes of Benziger’s portfolio and heritage. This part-time position offers up to 29 hours per week and demands flexibility including weekend availability, making it suitable for individuals who thrive in fast-paced, guest-centered environments.

Key responsibilities in this role revolve around delivering engaging and informative narratives about wines, varietals, viticulture practices, and winery history, thereby cultivating customer appreciation and enthusiasm. Candidates will conduct elevated tasting experiences and personalized tours such as Biodynamic Tram and Tribute Tours, while promoting wine sales and encouraging new memberships to the exclusive Wine Club. The role also requires proficiency in point-of-sale systems, managing high-volume transactions, and maintaining visual merchandising standards to enhance the tasting room atmosphere. Team collaboration is critical, as guides support both onsite and offsite events, working together to achieve daily and monthly sales targets. This position demands strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to upholding the highest levels of customer service and integrity. Furthermore, candidates will engage in ongoing educational training to deepen their knowledge of enology and viticulture, enriching their delivery and personal expertise.

Compensation for the Wine Specialist Tour Guide role includes an hourly wage starting at $20.00 per hour, with additional earnings from incentives, tips, and bonuses. Job Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • one or more years’ experience in a premium winery tasting room, hospitality setting and/or retail sales position preferred
  • must be available to work most weekends, special events and holidays
  • enthusiasm for wine and interest in expanding expertise
  • service driven, with superior customer service, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • friendly, positive, and professional disposition when dealing with guests, vendors, and team members
  • be a team player, working with other sales associates to reach monthly and daily sales goals
  • strong attention to detail and proactivity
  • ability to multi-task, follow-up, and work in a fast-paced environment under pressure
  • capability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
  • demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and adherence to all safety regulations and operating procedures
  • ability to learn how to operate tractor tram and electric tram touring vehicles and participate in regular safety trainings
  • must hold a valid driver’s license

Job Duties

  • Provide excellent customer service in all areas: welcome guests, educate and present the portfolio of wines and conduct elevated tasting experiences and tours
  • create and execute an exclusive experience for each customer: confidently and knowledgably speak to wines, varietals, winemaking/viticulture practices, growing areas, winery, and history
  • conduct daily Biodynamic Tram and/or Tribute Tours, in addition to wine tastings and elevated wine experiences, as scheduled
  • support the team in delivering exceptional onsite and offsite event experiences
  • promote the sale of wine and non-wine products sold in the Tasting Room and drive new memberships to the Wine Club
  • strong focus on closing sales and up-selling is crucial
  • collect names and email addresses for future contact
  • learn POS systems and manage high volume wine and merchandise transactions
  • maintain, update, and expand knowledge of the winery, viticulture, enology by participating in educational trainings and tastings within the Winery and through outside sources
  • stock supplies and maintain displays in retail areas
  • assist with set-up, breakdown and cleaning of tasting and touring spaces and supplies
