Job Description

Defined Hospitality is a renowned Philadelphia-based hospitality group recognized for its exceptional portfolio of acclaimed restaurants including Suraya, R&D, Pizzeria Beddia, Condesa & El Techo, Picnic, and Kalaya. Known for their commitment to culinary excellence and vibrant dining experiences, Defined Hospitality has carved a distinguished reputation within the culinary landscape of Philadelphia and beyond. The group is dedicated to creating unique and memorable moments for guests through innovative menus, thoughtfully curated beverage programs, and passionate service. Their establishments highlight a blend of cultural influences and local ingredients, fostering environments where both food and hospitality thrive in harmony.

Currently, Defined Hospitality is seeking an accomplished Wine Director / Beverage Manager for their celebrated Pizzeria Beddia location. This role is pivotal in driving the beverage program forward, with a specific focus on natural wines. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a successful track record in developing dynamic wine lists tailored for multiple service areas including the dining room, takeout, and private event spaces such as the hoagie room. In addition to creative wine list development, the candidate will play an instrumental role in sales growth and profit and loss management, contributing significantly to the overall business performance. Leadership and educational skills are highly valued, as the role involves leading, teaching, and directing front-of-house staff to deliver exceptional hospitality standards.

In this fast-paced, high-energy environment, the Wine Director / Beverage Manager will also be responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive wine education curriculum to be presented during daily pre-shift meetings and monthly training sessions. This educational focus ensures the staff is well-equipped with knowledge and enthusiasm about the wine program, directly enhancing guest experiences. Furthermore, planning and executing engaging monthly wine events form a key component of maintaining guest interest and education.

Beyond the wine expertise, this position requires stewardship of the beverage offerings, including the development and maintenance of draft cocktail recipes and diligent inventory management of wines, beers, and spirits. Excellence in guest hospitality, high standards for service and sanitation, and effective staff coaching and performance oversight round out the multifaceted responsibilities of this role.

Candidates should bring 1-2 years of prior experience as a front-of-house manager, coupled with a strong passion for natural wine and hospitality. While wine education certification is advantageous, it is not mandatory. A genuine affection for social and convivial environments like pizza parties is a welcomed bonus, emphasizing the group's culture of camaraderie and guest engagement.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to join a vibrant hospitality team, offering professional growth potential as Defined Hospitality continues to expand its footprint. The company provides a competitive benefits package including 60 percent employer-paid health coverage, paid vacation and sick time, dining discounts at their restaurants, complimentary gym membership, and leadership development training.
