The role of the Whole Body Department Leader is critical within Whole Foods Market's organizational structure, focusing on leadership and operational excellence within the Whole Body department. This position is responsible for overseeing daily operations, including managing profitability, expense control, buying, merchandising, labor, and regulatory compliance to ensure the department meets or exceeds its financial goals. The leader supports the development of Associate Team Leaders and Team Members by providing mentorship, coaching, and performance management, including hiring decisions, corrective actions, and separations in partnership with Store Leadership. This role demands exceptional customer service skills, leadership capabilities, and a thorough understanding of regulatory and safety procedures relevant to retail grocery and department operations. The Whole Body Department Leader must foster a positive and inclusive work environment that encourages teamwork, respect, and high morale among all team members. They play a vital role in maintaining collaborative relationships with vendors and store leadership to ensure smooth operations and high standards of retail execution. Additionally, this position involves overseeing inventory management, budget preparation, and forecasting sales to maximize profitability. Safety is paramount in this role, requiring adherence to all health and safety regulations, including food safety standards and employee security. Candidates for this position should be prepared to work in varying physical conditions and flexible scheduling environments, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The compensation for this role ranges from $27.10 to $43.07 per hour, commensurate with experience. Job Requirements

  • 24+ months retail experience including 12+ months of team leadership experience
  • must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • standing/walking 6-8 hours and sitting 1-4 hours per 8-hour work day
  • hand use including single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling
  • ability to perform motions such as bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching
  • exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
  • exposure to temperatures less than 32 degrees Fahrenheit (freezing), 32-40 degrees Fahrenheit (refrigerators), and greater than 90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
  • may require use of ladders

Job Duties

  • Hold ATLs, supervisors and Team Members accountable for delivering outstanding customer service
  • make hiring and separation decisions in partnership with Store Leadership
  • monitor and achieve sales, purchasing, and labor targets
  • project annual sales and expenses and prepare operating budget
  • manage ordering and inventory to achieve targeted contribution to profit margin
  • establish and maintain collaborative and productive working relationships with departmental and store leadership
