Job Description

Oceaneering International, a global leader in engineered services and products primarily serving the offshore energy industry, boasts a rich history of innovation and excellence spanning more than three decades. Within its diverse portfolio, the Oceaneering Marine Services Division (MSD) uniquely specializes in providing comprehensive submarine and surface ship repairs, supporting maintenance and alterations aboard both commercial and U.S. military vessels. With certifications such as SUBSAFE and DSS-SOC, the division is renowned for conducting high-consequence maintenance on critical assets operating in some of the world's most demanding maritime environments. Oceaneering's reputation for precision and reliability is further strengthened by its Aerospace and Defense Technologies (AdTech) unit, which delivers advanced safety and operational solutions from undersea conditions to the vastness of space. This integration of multi-industry expertise places Oceaneering at the forefront of government, space exploration, and maritime service markets, consistently meeting rigorous performance and safety standards.

Within this dynamic context, the Marine Services Division in Chesapeake, VA, seeks a skilled Welder III to join its proficient team. The Welder III plays a vital role in supporting marine and shipboard operations through expert welding capabilities that adhere to stringent quality and safety standards. The position demands proficiency in multiple welding techniques including TIG (GTAW), Stick (SMAW), MIG (GMAW), and Flux-Cored (FCAW), with responsibilities spanning fabrication, repair, and maintenance of structural and piping components. This role requires not only technical skill but also sound judgment and an ability to perform complex tasks within high-consequence, sometimes confined or elevated environments. The successful candidate will be capable of interpreting blueprints and technical drawings, selecting appropriate materials and welding parameters, and meeting visual, dimensional, and non-destructive testing inspection requirements such as ultrasonic and radiographic methods.

The position is full-time and may require overtime work and travel up to 75% of the year, reflecting the operational demands of supporting vessels across various locations. Oceaneering offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health and wellness programs, mental health support, retirement savings plans, paid time off, paid parental leave, tuition reimbursement, and an employee assistance program. The work environment involves indoor shop conditions with exposure to noise, temperature extremes, dust, fumes, and other potential hazards, necessitating strict adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment.

This role presents an excellent opportunity for experienced welders keen to advance their careers within a global enterprise known for technological innovation and operational excellence in challenging industries. Candidates are expected to be U.S. citizens with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, aligning with the sensitive nature of work supporting national defense and commercial maritime operations. Additional desired qualifications include experience in marine or naval contexts, familiarity with SUBSAFE or other high-consequence quality programs, and prior mentoring or leadership experience among welding teams. Through this position, Oceaneering continues its commitment to safety, quality, and professional development, offering a robust platform for employees to contribute meaningfully to pioneering marine projects.
