This role is for a dedicated maintenance and custodial professional who will be responsible for maintaining the university's buildings to ensure cleanliness, orderliness, and an aesthetically appealing environment. The position operates during weekends, specifically Saturdays and Sundays from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, which highlights the university's commitment to continuous upkeep and readiness for all campus activities. The hourly wage for this role ranges from $16.63 to $17.60, reflecting the university's recognition of the importance of this work.

The custodial specialist will perform a full array of maintenance tasks, including cleaning various surfaces such as walls, windows, floors, and furnishings, as well as disinfecting bathroom areas and replenishing supplies. The individual must be skilled in operating floor buffing and waxing machines and other cleaning equipment, with experience in shampooing and vacuuming carpets also highly desirable. There will also be responsibilities related to trash collection, snow removal around building entrances, and setup for special or athletic events.

This position requires someone who can read and follow both written and oral instructions, handle cleaning chemicals responsibly, and work effectively under general supervision. The role involves physical demands like lifting supplies and working in diverse environments including exposure to dust, chemicals, and temperature changes. Candidates must be prepared to work collaboratively with other employees and maintain an open and responsive relationship with students, guests, and colleagues.

Candidates are required to have at least a high school diploma or vocational training, with one year of relevant experience preferred, though substitutions for experience and education may be considered. Job Requirements

  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • complete employment eligibility verification by the first day of employment
  • able to perform physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, working in confined spaces
  • able to lift and carry moderately heavy items up to 30 pounds and occasionally very heavy items over 35 pounds
  • able to operate powered machinery requiring manipulation of multiple controls
  • exposed to dirt, dust, chemicals, fumes, cold, heat, noise, vibrations or dampness
  • must pass pre-employment background check
  • experience and/or education may be substituted for requirements
  • able to work weekends Saturdays and Sundays from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or vocational training preferred
  • one year of relevant work experience preferred
  • experience using floor machines for shampooing, stripping and refinishing is highly desirable
  • ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations
  • able to follow written and oral instructions
  • able to do special event setup using diagrams and sketches
  • able to operate assigned tools and housekeeping equipment or willing to learn
  • able to work with chemicals and cleaning solutions
  • able to lift and transport supplies
  • able to work effectively under general supervision

Job Duties

  • Cleans assigned areas by washing furnishings, walls, windows, tile, fixtures, equipment and floors
  • sanitizes and disinfects bathroom areas and replenishes paper and soap supplies
  • cleans all types of flooring surfaces including stairs
  • operates floor buffing and waxing machines and other standard cleaning equipment
  • vacuums and shampoos carpeting
  • collects and removes trash and recyclables
  • picks up, distributes and monitors supplies and equipment and locks them up at the end of each shift
  • sweeps or shovels snow from buildings, entrances and steps
  • cleans and dusts bulletin cases, pictures, trophy cases, fixtures, door frames and related furnishings
  • reports malfunctions, unsafe conditions, repairs and damages of equipment, fixtures and buildings to supervisor
  • performs setup for special and athletic events
  • performs all cleaning tasks in a timely and complete manner
  • works with other employees in a dependable, collaborative, and effective manner
  • maintains open and responsive relationships with the college community including guests, students and other employees
  • performs other related duties as assigned
