The WDVA is a leader in providing advocacy and innovative programs for nearly 500,000 veterans statewide. They operate four State Veterans Homes, including locations in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla, offering Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to veterans and, in some cases, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star families. The Spokane Veterans Home is committed to delivering quality care and support to its residents, who are veterans, through a compassionate and professional team environment.
The Food Service Worker position at the Spokane Veterans Home offers a valuable career opportunity for individuals who wish to contribute directly to the well-being of veterans. This part-time, permanent role is scheduled on a swing shift basis, specifically from Friday through Monday, 11:30 am to 8:00 pm, and it is not eligible for telework. The position is eligible for the "Supplement Basic Shift Premium," which provides an additional one dollar per hour for work performed during the basic shift premium hours at facilities providing direct care to residents. This shift premium is set to expire on June 29, 2027.
In this role, the Food Service Worker will be responsible for serving food safely and sanitary, ensuring that the nutritional needs of veteran residents are met according to therapeutic diet principles. They will serve both hot and cold foods, prepare food items, clean and sanitize equipment and work areas, and comply with all safe food handling and sanitation standards. The position necessitates physical activity such as lifting, pushing, and pulling supplies up to 40-60 pounds. The Food Service Worker will also play an important role in maintaining quality, safety, and infection control standards within the kitchen and dining environment. This role is vital in fostering a positive dining experience for the veterans and requires dependability, teamwork, and effective communication skills.
Working for the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs means becoming part of a mission-driven organization focused on honoring and supporting those who served the country. Employees at WDVA enjoy a diverse and inclusive work environment that values and respects every individual’s contributions.
