Job Description

This position is within a community-focused dining facility committed to providing exceptional dining services to senior residents. The role of the Dining Room Server is vital in delivering prompt, pleasant, and efficient service to community residents visiting the dining rooms and participating in activities. The server is responsible for maintaining the physical appearance of the dining areas and waitress stations to ensure a visually appealing and hazard-free environment. Staff must remain vigilant for any potential trip hazards and take immediate action to address them to maintain resident safety. This position requires individuals who are attentive, courteous, and able to adapt to specific dietary needs, providing a personalized and pleasant dining experience.

Key responsibilities include setting up the dining room according to hospitality and service standards, obtaining food and supplies for meal service, distributing and storing clean dishes, and practicing safe and sanitary food handling throughout preparation and service. The role also involves assisting with food preparation as directed and cleaning duties within the dining room, kitchen, serving areas, cafeteria, and storerooms. Maintaining hygiene standards, adhering to infection control guidelines, and following safety and loss prevention procedures are essential aspects of this position.

Additionally, the Dining Room Server must demonstrate ownership of safety practices not only for themselves but also for the residents, including disclosing any medications that could impair their ability to perform duties safely and competently. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in front-of-house operations within restaurants, hotels, or clubs, be familiar with OSHA and food-handling regulations, and possess patience and tact when interacting with residents, family members, and coworkers.

Job Duties

  • Maintain or exceed standards of appearance and cleanliness
  • maintain personal hygiene and health standards
  • maintain and protect the confidentiality of resident information at all times
  • provide a pleasant dining experience for all community residents while following instructions to meet their specific dietary needs when necessary
  • responsible for the proper dining set-up of the dining room(s) while meeting or exceeding hospitality and service standards
  • obtain food and supplies for meal service as directed
  • distribute and store clean dishes
  • practice safe, sanitary food handling for food preparation, food holding and service
  • assist in preparation of foods as directed
  • perform cleaning duties in dining room, kitchen, serving areas, cafeteria and storerooms as directed
  • mop floors in areas as designated by supervisor
  • practice and observe all safety and loss prevention procedures
  • adhere to universal precautions and all infection control guidelines
  • may perform other duties or fill in for other dining room or wait staff as requested
  • work in a safe and alert manner
  • take ownership for associate's safety and the safety of the residents
  • disclose any medication that might impair associate's ability to perform the job safely or competently
