Job Description

United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County (UWGMWC) is a respected nonprofit organization dedicated to mobilizing individuals, corporate partners, donors, volunteers, and local nonprofits to create lasting positive change across Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington, and Waukesha counties. For many years, the organization has served as a catalyst for community improvement, focusing on enhancing the quality of life for residents by addressing key social challenges, building partnerships, and fostering collective action. The mission of United Way revolves around creating a future where everyone can thrive and reach their full potential, regardless of their background or circumstances.

UWGMWC is currently seeking a dedicated Volunteer Engagement Coordinator on a seasonal basis to join their team from August to December 2026. This temporary full-time role offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in community service and volunteer coordination within a dynamic nonprofit environment. Positioned in the Volunteer Engagement department, this role plays a crucial part in supporting the logistical execution and planning of volunteer projects and events that span the organization's service area.

As a Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, you will balance your time between on-site work at the United Way office and off-site engagements at workplaces and community organizations. This role requires strong organizational skills to manage a variety of administrative and event-related tasks that are essential to delivering successful volunteer experiences. Working primarily Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends, this position involves multi-faceted responsibilities that cover event management, supply and logistics oversight, community outreach, administrative support, and communication coordination.

The position offers hands-on experience in coordinating large-scale volunteer events, including preparing and managing supplies, facilitating volunteer participation, and ensuring smooth execution of signature events. Additionally, the coordinator will assist in managing the inventory of volunteer supplies, driving company cargo vans for transport needs, and supporting related logistics. Community engagement duties include representing United Way at local events, helping promote volunteerism, and supporting recruitment initiatives.

On the administrative side, the volunteer coordinator is instrumental in managing data entry, communications, scheduling, and support for ongoing projects such as the Holiday Giving Tree program and Project Homeless Connect. This role also involves researching best practices and contributing to the development of promotional materials, enhancing the outreach capacity of the organization.

The ideal candidate is passionate about community service, possesses excellent communication and public speaking skills, and has a knack for logistical coordination and customer service. This role is also well-suited for someone eager to build their professional experience in nonprofit management, event coordination, and volunteer engagement. The position requires some physical activity, including lifting supplies and standing for extended periods, as well as a valid driver’s license and comfort driving company vehicles.

Working with UWGMWC means joining a team committed to equity, inclusion, and fostering a welcoming culture where employees can thrive. This seasonal role not only provides important professional development and training opportunities but also the chance to make meaningful connections with local businesses, nonprofits, and community members. You will gain valuable experience and skills that can enhance your resume while actively contributing to a cause that impacts thousands of lives.

Overall, the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator position offers a rewarding, immersive experience in community-based volunteer coordination within a purposeful nonprofit organization committed to lasting social impact.
