Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in developing and implementing strategic public affairs, communications and community development including advocacy, community organizing or other strategies that build connection and collaboration with diverse interests, preferably across multiple geographic communities
  • experience in Lane County or similar destination, destination organization, membership organization or association, hospitality, economic or related fields is a plus
  • 5+ years supervisory experience
  • excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • ability to think critically, analyze complex issues, and provide innovative solutions
  • passion for serving the community
  • professional and enthusiastic attitude
  • ability to successfully collaborate with a diverse range of people
  • public speaking experience
  • media relations experience, including media releases, interviews, and results tracking
  • proficient computer skills including CRM systems (Simpleview preferred), Microsoft Office 365 newsletter software etc.
  • data analysis and reporting
  • valid Oregon driver's license, clean driving record and ability to drive a company van
  • ability to set up and take down information table with brochures and other materials including tables, tents, etc
  • able to work evenings and weekends when necessary

Job Duties

  • Lead development and implementation of strategic community engagement
  • industry activation and destination development
  • lead community and industry engagement strategy development, implementation and evaluation
  • build strong relationships with local businesses, industry associations, media, community leaders, and partners
  • create and communicate clear, accurate, relevant and persuasive messaging and reports
  • oversee destination development for sustainable, community enhancing visitation
  • provide strategic guidance and oversight for membership development, services and events
  • manage staff
  • actively engage as a senior management team member
  • serve as a role model implementing organizational values
  • develop strategies and evaluate program performance
  • lead, mentor and inspire team
  • cultivate a culture of service, creativity, collaboration and improvement
  • foster relationships with community stakeholders
  • advocate for tourism benefits
  • collaborate on community projects
  • monitor industry issues and advocate policy support
  • facilitate board issues committee
  • prepare government and community communications strategies
  • attend public hearings and forums
  • schedule and coordinate presentations
  • analyze industry data to inform strategy
  • educate elected leaders on visitor economy benefits
  • lead local media and communications strategy
  • establish media relationships
  • generate media communications
  • conduct and coordinate interviews
  • secure and track media coverage
  • monitor news affecting tourism
  • prepare membership and partnership sales strategies
  • support membership and community engagement plans
  • maintain media and member website content
  • facilitate media and member business relationships
  • generate monthly departmental reports
  • develop communication strategies about tourism benefits
  • participate in special projects
