Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Provide safe and adequate animal restraint during physical examinations and other medical/surgical procedures
  • perform and prepare diagnostics such as radiographs, phlebotomy, cytology's and other laboratory tests as requested by the veterinarian
  • prepare patients for surgical procedures using sterile technique
  • maintain accurate and thorough patient logs including anesthesia forms and misc. logs
  • ensure proper patient safety by monitoring anesthetic patients during the procedure and while in recovery
  • maintain accurate records of medical treatments and physical exams
  • accurately create and fill prescription labels as directed by the veterinarians
  • administer prescribed medication(s) as directed on the label in accordance with the Nevada State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners
  • monitor hospitalized clinic patients by ensuring proper husbandry tasks are completed and all concerns are reported to the medicine veterinarian
  • complete daily treatment rounds for medicated shelter animals while monitoring overall health of shelter population
  • perform brief physical exams and other necessary preventative care including vaccines and parvo snap tests to new shelter intakes
  • identify normal and abnormal parameters in a variety of patients and flag concerns for the veterinarians in ShelterLuv
  • ensure all new shelter intakes are properly identified by photographing each animal in accordance with marketing needs
  • assist with public services, both on and off-site, including but not limited to spay/neuter and vaccine clinics
  • ensure all surgical instruments are cleaned and packed accurately to ensure proper pack sterilization
  • in the event of an emergency, assist with the handling and evacuation of animals located at either Nevada Humane Society campus
