The position of Minibus or Van Driver at Goodwill Southern New England is a vital role focused on safely transporting individuals who receive services, trainees, or company personnel between various locations. This role requires a high level of responsibility and dedication, with an hourly pay starting at $19.85 and potentially increasing up to $28.15 depending on experience and qualifications. The driver is entrusted with executing pre and post-trip vehicle inspections, ensuring passenger safety, assisting with mobility needs, and maintaining accurate records of transportation activities. Drivers will operate minibuses or vans to transport passengers from designated pickup points to community destinations such as senior centers, recreational facilities, community work sites, and other places that serve the needs of Goodwill Southern New England clients. A significant aspect of the job includes securing passengers' wheelchairs properly, ensuring the use of all safety restraints, and assessing the physical environment to prevent hazards. Additionally, drivers communicate with base stations via radio during their trips, keep vehicles clean and well-maintained, and assist with deliveries of interoffice mail when assigned.

Candidates in this role must possess a valid Connecticut Driver's License, commit to obtaining a Public Service License within 90 days, and be prepared to engage in ongoing training including physical and psychological management as well as CPR and First Aid certifications. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • three to twelve months related experience and or training
  • valid Connecticut driver’s license in good standing
  • ability to secure a CT Public Service License within 90 days of hire
  • ability to complete basic forms and communicate effectively
  • ability to follow set schedules
  • ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions
  • ability to assist with the physical mobility needs of passengers including lifting and moving up to 50 pounds
  • ability to perform duties in various weather conditions

Job Duties

  • Conduct pre and post-trip inspections on agency owned or leased vehicles
