Job Description

Henry Ford Hospital - Detroit Main Campus is one of the leading healthcare institutions in the region, renowned for its comprehensive medical services and commitment to patient care. It is a part of the larger Henry Ford Health System, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving health and healthcare delivery. With a diverse team of healthcare professionals and support staff, the hospital strives to create a supportive environment for both patients and visitors, ensuring their safety and convenience throughout their visits. The hospital’s Parking Valet department is an essential component in enhancing the patient and visitor experience by providing efficient and courteous vehicle services. This department plays a pivotal role in managing the influx of vehicles by offering valet parking assistance and traffic control around the hospital entrance, thereby facilitating smooth access to hospital facilities.

The role of a Valet Attendant at Henry Ford Hospital - Detroit Main Campus involves assisting patients and visitors with their vehicles, ensuring safe transport to and from designated parking areas. This position is highly customer service-oriented, requiring professionalism, attentiveness, and the ability to manage vehicles with care. The Valet Attendant is responsible for greeting guests upon arrival, assisting with vehicle entry and exit, and driving cars to assigned parking locations promptly and safely. This role demands physical stamina, including the ability to lift at least 50 pounds when assisting passengers. The Valet Attendant also conducts thorough inspections of vehicles for any existing damage and documents this on valet tickets to prevent disputes or liability claims. Accuracy and accountability are crucial, as attendants issue parking tickets, maintain records of ticket transactions, and ensure the secure handling of all vehicles.

Working under direct supervision, the Valet Attendant collaborates closely with the Parking Valet team leader and other hospital staff to maintain a seamless flow of traffic and efficient parking services. The position also requires strict adherence to safety protocols, including the prohibition of speeding, careless driving, or any form of vehicle mistreatment. Additionally, the employee must notify supervisors immediately if there are any changes or restrictions to their driving license privileges, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and legal requirements.

The role extends beyond vehicle handling to include effective communication with patients and visitors, providing assistance based on their requests or special needs. This job is ideally suited for candidates with a high school diploma or GED, with a preference for those who have prior cashier experience to handle monetary transactions efficiently. Skills in basic mathematics are essential to manage correct fee collection and change making. The ability to read tickets, handle cash accurately, and complete shift reports is also required. Valet attendants contribute significantly to the overall patient and visitor experience by delivering courteous and reliable service, thereby supporting the hospital’s reputation as a caring and well-organized healthcare provider.

This position is a day job shift with no applicable union code, reflecting a straightforward employment arrangement focused on shift-based operational needs. Embracing a role within Henry Ford Hospital’s Parking Valet department represents an opportunity to be part of a dedicated team that values safety, responsibility, and exceptional customer service. Valet attendants play a key role in ensuring that patients and visitors have a positive, hassle-free experience when navigating the hospital’s parking facilities.
