The Utility Worker position at Sodexo, located at the Alaska Airlines Lounge in Portland (PDX), is a full-time role offering a pay rate of $20 per hour. This role is pivotal in supporting kitchen and facility operations by maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and organizational standards throughout food production and service areas. The workdays and shifts vary, with open availability preferred to meet the dynamic scheduling needs of the lounge. This position demands physical stamina, including the ability to stand or walk for extended periods, and the capability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

As a Utility Worker, you will be responsible for a variety of essential tasks that ensure the smooth operation of kitchen and food service environments. Your duties include washing dishes manually or using dishwashing machines, cleaning and sanitizing work areas, floors, walls, refrigerators, and meat blocks, as well as respectful handling of trash and waste disposal. Additionally, you will manage cleaning equipment using specific chemicals to maintain sanitary conditions, restock supplies such as soap and paper towels, and assist with basic setup and breakdown tasks as needed.

This position is integral to the overall customer experience by helping maintain a clean, safe, and efficiently run environment that meets strict health and safety standards. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • No related work experience required
  • Knowledge of sanitation procedures, including basic food safety concepts
  • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift or move 50 pounds
  • Availability to work varying shifts with open availability preferred
  • Attends work and arrives on time consistently
  • Willingness to perform physical tasks and mobility requirements

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of sanitation procedures, to include basic concepts of food safety
  • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift or move 50 pounds

Job Duties

  • Washes dishes by hand or places them in a dishwashing machine
  • Clean and sanitize worktables, walls, refrigerators and meat blocks
  • Sweeps, mops, cleans and vacuums floors
  • Removes trash and garbage to designated areas
  • Cleans equipment using specific chemicals to ensure sanitary standards
  • Re-stock supplies, such as soap, paper towels, and cleaning materials
  • Assists with basic set-up and break-down tasks as directed
