The role of a Transport Refrigeration Unit (TRU) Technician at Walmart is a critical position responsible for the maintenance and repair of refrigeration units on transport vehicles, including trailers and tractors. This role requires expertise in preventive maintenance and repair of transport refrigeration units (TRU) following original equipment manufacturer (OEM) procedures to ensure optimal operation. The technician will also handle repairs on refrigeration trailer components such as interior walls, floors, doors, and accessories. Operating TRUs in various modes, diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, refrigeration systems, and communication systems is a fundamental part of the job. This position also involves maintaining trailer electrical wiring, lighting, landing gear, interior panels, and other trailer-specific repairs.

Additional responsibilities include performing preventative maintenance and repairs on tractor-trailer braking systems, installing and balancing tires, and conducting advanced axle alignments using electronic and digital equipment. The technician must manage fuel sampling and receive fuel drops adhering to safety and procedural compliance. Furthermore, the technician is responsible for identifying warrantable repairs, accurately documenting maintenance activities for warranty claims, and ensuring proper parts handling.

This role demands collaboration with other technicians, adherence to company policies, and maintaining high ethical standards. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience in trailer refrigeration maintenance and repair, including diagnostic and component replacement, an EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Handling Certification, and relevant brake and vehicle inspection qualifications as defined by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations. Preferred qualifications include holding a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL), DOT driver’s certification, experience maintaining tractors and trailers, mastery certifications like Thermo King or Carrier Master Tech, computer proficiency, and ASE Certification.
