Job Description

Lakeland Regional Health is a prominent medical center situated in Central Florida, recognized for its century-long commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare services to the community. As the only Provisional Level 1 Trauma center serving Polk, Highlands, and Hardee counties, it holds a distinguished position in the region's healthcare landscape. Moreover, it operates the second busiest Emergency Department in the United States, underscoring its critical role in emergency medical care. The institution is equipped with a 910-bed licensed facility and manages a substantial volume of patients annually, including over 200,000 emergency room visits, 49,000 inpatient admissions, 21,000 surgical cases, 4,000 births, and 101,000 outpatient visits.

Lakeland Regional Health is currently seeking dedicated Unit Support Staff/Patient Care Assistants (PCA) who are passionate about patient care and teamwork. This position offers benefit-eligible employment with accrual of time off, working a standard 80-hour biweekly schedule from Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, at the Lakeland Hills Blvd location with a competitive pay rate ranging from $16.44 to $18.91 per hour. This role involves delivering direct patient care under the supervision and delegation of Registered Nurses, performing specific patient care competencies tailored to meet departmental standards. In addition to core patient care responsibilities, the position demands versatility by performing at least two additional unit-specific multi-skilled tasks monthly, which may involve order entry, inventory control, discharge paperwork assistance, recreational therapy support, cardiac monitoring, or patient transport. Maintaining a safe work environment is paramount, including adherence to infection control protocols, verifying patient identity, following fire and disaster plans, and documenting patient care meticulously. Candidates must demonstrate clinical proficiency through age-specific competencies and uphold professional standards of communication and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification. The opportunity is ideal for individuals with prior PCA experience seeking to contribute meaningfully to a dynamic healthcare setting focused on safety, quality improvement, and compassionate care.
