Job Description
Founded in 1985 by Tetsushi Mizokami, Uncle Tetsu is a distinguished international Asian-inspired bakery celebrated worldwide for its original Japanese cheesecakes. With over 80 locations globally, Uncle Tetsu is renowned for delivering an authentic taste experience characterized by its signature sweet and fluffy cheesecakes, each embossed uniquely with the iconic Uncle Tetsu character stamp. Committed to quality and tradition, Uncle Tetsu continues to enchant dessert enthusiasts by maintaining stringent standards in their baking processes and recipe authenticity. This emphasis on preserving the integrity of their offerings has established Uncle Tetsu as a beloved brand in the bakery and dessert sector.
The Baker role at Uncle Tetsu involves a central responsibility in the preparation of all baked goods including cakes, cookies, and tarts aligned with the company’s recipes and standards. This position demands meticulous attention to flavor, color, and aroma to ensure that every product meets the signature quality expected by customers. It is a hands-on role that entails guiding and assisting the Baker Assistant, contributing to their training and skill development while also being adept at performing all duties typical of a Baker Assistant. This role is integral to operational excellence in delivering the sweet, fluffy cheesecake experience Uncle Tetsu is famous for.
This position requires reliability and consistent attendance given the demanding nature of bakery operations. The job involves working in challenging kitchen conditions which may include heat, fast-paced environments, and physical demands such as standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 pounds. Ideal candidates will possess strong communication skills, the ability to adapt to shifting priorities, and demonstrate competence in managing workplace challenges with professionalism and efficiency.
Uncle Tetsu emphasizes compliance with food safety regulations, requiring local or municipal food handler certification typically acquired at the applicant’s expense. Applicants are expected to have at least some high school education and a minimum of one year operational experience to thrive in this environment. The company honors diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive workplace that respects all employees’ backgrounds and abilities.
In terms of remuneration, the Baker role offers competitive pay ranging from $20.25 to $23.25 per hour, with exact pay determined by factors including location and experience. Notably, the role provides significant benefits such as flexible schedules, medical and dental insurance, vision coverage, paid time off, and opportunities for career advancement. Employees also benefit from paid training to ensure their success in the role and are supported by an organizational culture that values family and community engagement.
Uncle Tetsu is part of the larger Panda Restaurant Group heritage, noted as America’s largest family-owned American Chinese restaurant concept, operating nearly 2,300 locations worldwide. This affiliation enriches the organizational culture with strong family values and a mission to inspire team members to improve their lives through meaningful employment and community involvement. The company also champions equal opportunity employment practices and complies rigorously with ADA requirements, ensuring fair treatment and accommodations in the workplace.
