Job Description

Uncle Tetsu, established in 1985 by Tetsushi Mizokami, is a globally recognized Asian-inspired bakery famous for its original Japanese cheesecakes. With over 80 locations worldwide, Uncle Tetsu has built a reputation for delivering sweet, fluffy cheesecakes that are beloved by customers and marked with the iconic Uncle Tetsu character stamp. The bakery focuses on high-quality ingredients and authentic recipes that capture the essence of Japanese baking traditions, appealing to a diverse international customer base.

Uncle Tetsu is part of the Panda Restaurant Group, the largest family-owned American Chinese restaurant concept, headquartered in Glendale, California. Since 1983, Panda Restaurant Group has expanded to nearly 2,800 locations globally, impacting communities and inspiring team members with its family values and commitment to excellent Asian dining experiences. The role of Baker at Uncle Tetsu contributes significantly to maintaining the brand's standards and delivering the beloved product customers expect.

The Baker position is responsible for creating cheesecakes, cookies, and tarts that meet Uncle Tetsu’s high standards for flavor, color, and aroma. This role requires meticulous attention to detail and adherence to company recipes and quality standards. The Baker will also guide and support Baker Assistants, ensuring they are properly trained and capable of carrying out their duties. This position demands a blend of technical baking skills, teamwork, and the ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

Working at Uncle Tetsu offers a competitive pay range from $22 to $25 per hour, with individual pay determined by factors such as location and experience. The schedule is flexible to accommodate the needs of team members, and the position includes benefits such as medical, vision, dental insurance, short-term disability coverage, and access to a 401K plan with company match. Paid training and opportunities for career growth within the company are also provided, making it an attractive opportunity for individuals looking to develop a meaningful career in the bakery and food service industry.

The working environment in Uncle Tetsu's kitchens can be physically demanding. Bakers are expected to stand for extended periods, manage hot and cold food preparation, use kitchen tools like Chinese cook knives, and maintain accuracy under pressure. The role requires lifting up to 50 pounds and thriving in a bustling, dynamic setting where communication skills and the ability to manage challenging situations are essential. Uncle Tetsu supports an inclusive and equal opportunity work environment in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), offering accommodations to qualified individuals throughout the application and hiring process.
