Job Description
The hiring establishment is a hospital known for its steadfast commitment to providing a safe, clean, and hygienic environment for patients, staff, and visitors alike. Hospitals require a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care that includes not just medical and clinical services but also essential support functions such as housekeeping. This hospital maintains a well-lighted, heated, and ventilated building environment where every department contributes to the overall health and safety objectives prescribed by the institution's philosophy. The housekeeping role is pivotal in upholding these standards, directly impacting infection control and patient safety outcomes. The hospital environment poses unique challenges, including potential exposure to blood borne pathogens, necessitating trained and vigilant housekeeping staff.
The role being offered is that of a Housekeeper who, under general supervision, takes responsibility for the thorough cleaning and disinfection of both occupied and discharged patient rooms and bathrooms. The position demands attention to detail and the ability to maintain various hospital areas by performing tasks such as spot cleaning carpets, furniture, and fixtures, washing windows and walls, dusting furniture, equipment, woodwork, window sills, and countertops. Housekeepers are also responsible for the proper collection and disposal of regular waste and the correct handling of medical infectious waste and soiled linen, following stringent hospital protocols. Other duties include exchanging full sharps boxes for empty ones, delivering clean linen exchange carts to storage areas, maintaining orderly utility rooms, vacuuming patient rooms and public areas, as well as cleaning vents, fans, elevators, and baseboards. This role is vital for ensuring that the hospital environment meets the highest cleanliness standards to facilitate quality patient care.
Working hours may vary to meet the operational needs of the hospital, and team members may occasionally be required to work in areas outside their usual assignments. Interaction with medical staff and ancillary departments plays an integral role in coordinating effective patient care and safety measures. The position requires sufficient physical capabilities such as the mobility and dexterity to operate hand and power equipment safely and the strength to lift and move light to medium weight materials including supplies, chemicals, and furniture. Workers in this role must be prepared for activities that demand prolonged standing, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, and stretching.
Candidates should preferably possess a high school diploma or GED and have prior housekeeping experience. Essential skills include reading, writing, and counting, as well as interpersonal abilities necessary for effective communication and teamwork within the hospital’s departmental structure. Training will be provided to ensure knowledge of proper cleaning procedures and equipment operation, all aimed at maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to contribute to healthcare through vital environmental support services, ensuring the hospital remains a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for everyone who relies on its care.
