Job Description

Hawaiian Community Assets (HCA) is a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering low- and moderate-income communities in Hawaii, focusing especially on supporting Native Hawaiian families. As part of its mission, HCA strives to build capacity and foster economic self-sufficiency through innovative housing and community investment initiatives. The organization emphasizes a positive and respectful environment, community innovation and growth, collaboration, integrity in communication, and a strong drive for accountability. These core values guide all aspects of its programs and services, including housing development and disaster recovery efforts.

The Housing & Community Investment Division leads critical projects aimed at creating stable homeownership opportunities and sustainable community transformation. One flagship program under this division is Ua Hale A'ela, a statewide rent-to-own, scattered-site housing initiative designed to support Native Hawaiian and local families on a pathway to long-term housing stability. Following the devastating 2023 Lahaina wildfires, the program expanded on Maui through the Maui Strong recovery effort. This expansion focuses on wildfire rebuild oversight and scattered-site acquisition and renovation to address urgent housing recovery needs while maintaining culturally grounded and trauma-informed communication.

The Ua Hale A'ela Maui Project Manager position is an exciting and impactful role that directly supports these goals. As the primary on-the-ground implementation lead for all Maui-based development activities related to both the Maui Strong grant and the broader Ua Hale A'ela program, the Project Manager plays a vital role in ensuring the success and compliance of housing projects. This includes leading oversight for Lahaina homeowner rebuilds, coordinating with multiple stakeholders such as contractors, designers, insurers, and county agencies, and providing logistical and documentation support to families navigating the rebuilding process.

Additionally, the Project Manager is responsible for managing scattered-site acquisition and renovation projects by overseeing renovation readiness, coordinating scopes of work and inspections, and conducting site visits to ensure safety and habitability standards are met. They also maintain construction documentation and budget tracking to ensure efficient and compliant project execution. Another key responsibility is collaborating with housing counselors on client readiness, monitoring property management performance, and coordinating sales and ownership transition milestones in Maui.

Compliance and rigorous documentation are essential components of this role, especially in maintaining audit-ready files and preparing reports required by the Maui Strong grant and related funding sources. Ensuring procurement processes and documentation meet grant requirements is also a critical aspect of maintaining program integrity.

This role reports directly to the Ua Hale A'ela Associate Director and provides a unique opportunity for professionals with construction, project management, or housing development experience to make a significant impact in disaster recovery, community stabilization, and affordable housing solutions. The position requires strong communication, organizational skills, and the ability to juggle multiple concurrent projects effectively. It offers a competitive salary range between $65,000 and $80,000 annually, along with benefits such as healthcare, temporary disability, workers' compensation, group life insurance, 401(k) matching after 12 months, and paid time off after six months of employment. This role is perfect for individuals passionate about culturally respectful housing initiatives and dedicated to supporting resilient communities in Hawaii.
