The company is committed to innovation, customer satisfaction, and community involvement, making it a trusted partner for individuals and families during their moving journeys. Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, U-Haul operates thousands of locations nationwide, including moving and storage centers, retail stores, and distribution networks. Their mission is to make moving easier by offering a variety of products and exceptional customer service. U-Haul’s reputation for integrity, dedication, and quality service has made it a preferred choice in the industry for decades.
This position is for a General Manager at a U-Haul moving and storage center located at 4611 Coldwater Rd, Fort Wayne, Indiana. This is a hands-on role that requires a responsible and motivated individual to lead and manage the daily operations of the center. The General Manager's primary objective is to ensure the profitability and efficiency of the location by overseeing staff recruitment and development, managing inventory and equipment, and maintaining excellent customer service standards. The job is fast-paced and varied, involving problem-solving whenever issues arise and providing continuous improvement in operational activities.
U-Haul promotes a work culture centered around swift hiring processes and immediate compensation, offering the unique benefit of paid working interviews and bonuses at multiple stages. From the start, new managers benefit from a hiring bonus and additional monetary rewards upon certification completion. The role includes significant career advancement opportunities, extensive on-the-job training, and access to U-Haul University for professional and personal growth. The company also emphasizes employee wellness through programs like virtual doctor visits, registered dietitian services, and fitness reimbursements.
In managing the center, the General Manager will handle fleet management to ensure the equipment is clean and well-maintained, perform detailed profit and loss analyses, mentor new team members, control inventory, and oversee the personnel budget. Customer satisfaction and security of the facility are paramount. The manager will also participate in ongoing education to stay updated on industry best practices and company procedures. This position requires a proactive leader capable of balancing operational control with excellent team leadership to foster a productive and safe working environment.
U-Haul offers a comprehensive benefits package to eligible managers, including full medical coverage, prescription plans, dental and vision insurance, and retirement options such as 401(k) and employee stock ownership plans. Additional perks include paid holidays, vacation and sick days, legal and insurance programs, discounts, and wellness initiatives that support a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Working conditions involve moderate physical demands and the need for safety awareness due to working near moving parts and machinery. U-Haul is also committed to maintaining a nicotine-free workplace in many states, reflecting its dedication to health and wellness. The company is an equal opportunity employer and supports accommodations for applicants throughout the hiring process.
