Job Description
Tulare County General Services Agency - Parks Division is committed to offering enriching recreational experiences to the community by preserving natural resources and maintaining safe, welcoming park environments. The agency is responsible for managing various county parks, ensuring their upkeep, safety, and accessibility for all visitors. Through dedicated programs and community support, it promotes outdoor activities and strives to create enjoyable and sustainable park settings that encourage environmental stewardship and community engagement.
The Park Host program under this agency is a voluntary position designed to enhance the visitor experience and support park operations. As a Park Host volunteer, you will be the on-site representative for Tulare County Parks, playing a vital role in assisting visitors by providing accurate information about park rules, facilities, and local attractions. The role involves monitoring the park premises to ensure safety and cleanliness while ensuring compliance with county regulations. You will assist with the opening and closing of park gates, help maintain restrooms and common areas, and promptly report to park staff any maintenance or security issues such as vandalism or safety hazards. Beyond daily responsibilities, the Park Host supports the Parks Division by fostering a positive and welcoming environment, contributing to the overall well-being of the park and its visitors.
This volunteer role requires the individual to live on-site in a self-contained living unit, maintaining it in a clean, safe, and operable condition throughout the residence period. Effective communication with County staff and emergency services is critical; therefore, Park Hosts must maintain a working cell phone or internet service with reliable coverage. Because this is a volunteer role, it is non-compensated but offers the unique opportunity to engage deeply with nature and serve the community.
All prospective Park Hosts must pass comprehensive background checks, including Live Scan fingerprinting, and comply with all County safety and conduct policies as outlined in the Occupancy and Use of Premises Agreement and Host Duties and Responsibilities. The County provides designated living spaces equipped with necessary utilities such as electricity, water, sewer (where available), and trash service to support the volunteer's stay.
If you are passionate about outdoor recreation, have a commitment to public service, and are looking for a meaningful way to contribute to your community, the Tulare County Park Host program offers a fulfilling volunteer opportunity. This role not only helps maintain and protect the park resources but also builds connections with park visitors by serving as an ambassador for the County's natural spaces. Your involvement as a Park Host will directly impact the quality of park experiences for countless individuals and families, helping to preserve the natural beauty and safety of Tulare County's parks for future generations.
