Job Description
Union Gospel Mission (UGM) is a privately funded nonprofit evangelical Christian ministry that is committed to sharing the Gospel and providing help to the homeless and impoverished. UGM operates through a ministry-driven approach aimed at restoring lives and empowering individuals through spiritual guidance and practical assistance. As a Christ-centered organization, every position within UGM is considered a vital part of its mission to serve the community and spread Christian teachings. Employees are expected to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, subscribe to UGM's Statement of Faith and Core Values, and actively participate in ministry activities such as Bible study, prayer, devotions, and sharing the Gospel. This dedication to faith and service creates a supportive and purpose-driven environment at UGM.
The Processing Associate role is positioned within the Thrift Store department and reports directly to the Processing Manager. UGM Thrift Stores focus on reselling, reusing, and recycling slightly used donated clothing, furniture, and household items, making an impactful contribution toward sustainability while supporting UGM's ministry objectives. The position primarily involves the processing of donations—from accepting to sorting and pricing donated merchandise—ensuring compliance with company policies and standards, and aligning duties with the UGM Mission Statement. The ideal candidate will have excellent hospitality and communication skills to provide a warm, welcoming experience to donors while efficiently handling donations and supporting the operational flow of the thrift store.
This full-time position demands a friendly and servant-hearted individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and demonstrates problem-solving capabilities with minimal supervision. The Processing Associate must be adept at recognizing quality merchandise and thoroughly versed in pricing guidelines and prohibited items policies. Daily interactions with donors, processing staff, and management require strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented approach. Employees contribute not only to the mission of UGM but also to maintaining a productive, respectful, and safe work environment. Physical stamina is essential, as the job involves considerable use of hands, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and standing for long periods.
Working conditions also include the use of various tools like pricing guns, steamers, racks, forklifts, and carts to facilitate the processing and merchandising of goods. UGM offers a highly supportive work culture enriched with spiritual growth opportunities and benefits including paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability coverage, and a 403(b) retirement plan with company matching. The Processing Associate plays a critical role in fueling the mission of UGM through operational excellence, spiritual commitment, and dedication to community engagement.
