The role of the Driver, Hourly CDL-A, at Core-Mark is pivotal to the seamless operation of the food supply chain. The primary responsibilities of this role include conducting all mandated safety inspections of trucks and trailers, adhering strictly to Department of Transportation regulations and company safety protocols. Drivers must effectively manage the loading and unloading of freight, ensuring that products are delivered in perfect condition and that all associated paperwork is accurately completed. They also handle customer interactions with professionalism, verifying deliveries and securing necessary signatures, collecting payments when required, and maintaining clear and compliant records including daily hours of service logs.

Moreover, drivers are responsible for performing routine maintenance checks, reporting any safety issues or equipment repairs, and ensuring that all cargo is properly secured during transit. The role demands physical capability to handle freight typically ranging in weight from 10 to 90 pounds using equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates. Drivers must be able to pass road tests and background screening, maintain a clean motor vehicle record, and possess or be able to obtain the necessary DOT Health Card. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 6 months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Meet relevant state licensing/certification requirements
  • Clean motor vehicle report for last 3 years
  • Pass post-offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Current or attainable DOT health card
  • Ability to hand-lift and use equipment to move product cases weighing between 10 and 90 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • 6+ months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attains or has valid current DOT health card and/or able to secure new DOT health card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize equipment to move and stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight

Job Duties

  • Performs all required safety checks including pre and post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately reports all safety hazards and inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Performs count check of items and checks customer invoices of products that have been loaded
  • Moves tractor to the loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule and unloads products from the trailer
  • Performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy
  • Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures
  • Collects money where required
  • Loads customer returns onto trailer and secures trailer doors
  • Unloads damaged goods and customer returns and completes necessary paperwork
  • Completes daily record of hours of service and enters in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Performs general housekeeping duties, secures all equipment and completes paperwork at the end of shift
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
