Job Description

We are currently seeking skilled and dedicated drivers based in Ypsilanti, Michigan, who will be a vital part of our distribution system. This full-time position offers competitive pay, ranging from $70,000 to $75,000 per year, along with a generous $7,000 sign-on bonus. Drivers will work a schedule of Monday through Friday with a 4-5 day work week based on Hours of Service (HOS) regulations, and importantly, all routes are designed for drivers to be home daily, enhancing work-life balance.

The role involves operating tractor trailers or straight trucks for intrastate and interstate deliveries, including local, over-the-road, shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop routes. Drivers will be responsible for transporting food and related products safely and efficiently to a broad customer base. This includes ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies, performing critical safety inspections before and after trips, and maintaining clear and accurate delivery documentation. The successful candidate will be responsible for the loading and unloading of freight, securing loads properly, conducting damage control checks, and managing customer interactions professionally to confirm deliveries and handle payments if required.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or GED
  • valid CDL-A license
  • minimum 6 months tractor-trailer experience
  • meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
  • clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • pass road test
  • current or ability to obtain valid DOT health card
  • ability to lift and handle product cases typically ranging from 10 to 90 pounds
  • willing to work Monday through Friday, 4-5 day workweek based on Hours of Service
  • ability to perform physical tasks including using two-wheeler and lift gate
  • have excellent communication skills for customer interaction
  • ability to adhere to DOT and company safety regulations

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or GED
  • minimum 6 months tractor-trailer driving experience
  • valid CDL-A license
  • meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
  • clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • pass road test
  • current or ability to obtain valid DOT health card
  • ability to lift and handle product cases typically ranging from 10 to 90 pounds using equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates
  • preferred 1+ years foodservice distribution or tractor-trailer experience
  • experience with onboard computers and electronic log systems such as PeopleNet
  • experience with hand-held point of delivery scanning systems (POD)
  • customer service experience

Job Duties

  • perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • report all safety hazards immediately and inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • perform count check of items and verify customer invoices for loaded products, complete accurate freight paperwork
  • move tractor to loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
  • drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule, unload products into designated customer storage areas
  • perform damage control checks, scan items, report order discrepancies to supervisor, verify delivery with customer and obtain proper signatures, collect payments when required
  • load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors, ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and secured
  • unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork, remove trash and unload equipment and materials from trailers as required
  • complete daily record of hours of service and log according to Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • perform general housekeeping duties in tractor and loading dock area, keep trailers clear and clean, secure all equipment and complete all necessary paperwork at shift end
  • perform other related duties as assigned
