Job Description
Safety-Kleen, a division of Clean Harbors, is a leader in environmental services and industrial waste management, specializing in the safe handling and transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials. With a strong commitment to health and safety and over several decades of industry experience, Safety-Kleen provides essential environmental solutions that support industrial clients across the United States, including regional transportation services. They are recognized for their culture of safety, innovation, and employee support as well as their commitment to environmental stewardship.
The Regional Class A Tanker Driver position based in East Chicago, Indiana, offers an exciting opportunity to join a safety-conscious and dynamic team working within the Midwest region. This route averages 2400 miles per week, allowing drivers to operate in a consistent regional circuit. Drivers in this role can expect to earn between $90,000 and $120,000 annually, reflecting a competitive wage structure that includes hourly pay for all on-duty non-driving time plus mileage pay. Additionally, the role offers a $7,500 sign-on bonus as an incentive to attract qualified candidates.
This full-time position emphasizes weekly home time, providing drivers with a balance between work and personal life, which is highly valued in the trucking industry. The company prioritizes health and safety above all else, living this value every day of the year, and backs it with comprehensive health benefits available after 30 days of full-time employment. Drivers are also eligible for a group 401K with company matching, paid time off, company-sponsored training programs, tuition reimbursement, and an employee stock purchase plan, giving them an ownership stake in the company.
The role requires operating tractor-trailer tanker units safely and efficiently, ensuring all loads meet weight requirements and are properly secured during transit. Drivers must be diligent in their adherence to safety regulations, including the proper placarding of vehicles as required by Department of Transportation rules. Maintaining accurate and thorough logs, time sheets, expense reports, and vehicle inspection reports is critical for compliance and operational efficiency.
Safety-Kleen seeks experienced Class A CDL holders with a minimum of one year of driving experience and at least three months of tanker operation experience. Candidates must possess valid HAZMAT and tanker endorsements, be able to climb and work from heights, and have the physical ability to lift and carry weights over 50 pounds. The ability to effectively use technology such as mobile apps and computer software is also essential to maintain communication and reporting throughout the route.
Clean Harbors, the parent company, is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to supporting veterans, individuals with disabilities, and maintains transparency in compensation practices. The company fosters a positive and safe work environment where health, safety, and employee well-being are top priorities. This role is ideal for dedicated professionals who value safety, quality, and career growth in a well-respected environmental services company.
