Job Description

As a vital part of the region's infrastructure, MTS operates an extensive network of rail stations, parking lots, right-of-ways, buildings, and yards. The agency emphasizes a commitment to equal employment opportunity, fostering a respectful and inclusive work environment that celebrates diversity in all forms. MTS values its employees and offers competitive wages, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for professional growth and development.

The Serviceperson role at MTS is an essential position focused on maintaining and enhancing the physical environment of all MTS rail stations and associated facilities. Reporting directly to the Facilities Supervisor, the Serviceperson performs a range of general maintenance, repair, cleaning, and landscaping tasks designed to ensure that transit properties are safe, clean, and visually appealing to the public. This role involves working outdoors extensively, often in varying weather conditions, and requires physical stamina, flexibility, and the ability to operate various equipment safely.

Servicepersons are assigned to morning or afternoon shifts, with shift preferences determined by seniority bidding. This position requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as operational needs dictate. The responsibilities are diverse, including daily briefing attendance, traveling to assigned locations via company vehicles or trolleys, and bringing necessary equipment to complete assigned tasks. They clean trolley stations by removing litter and graffiti, washing platforms, sweeping trackways, and maintaining vending machines. Servicepersons also clean buildings and yards, managing trash removal, surface cleaning, restroom maintenance, floor care, and other custodial duties.

Landscaping duties involve maintaining stations and substations by trimming hedges and trees, repairing irrigation systems, installing sprinklers, and mending fences if qualified. Additional tasks include loading supplies, painting, roof installation, concrete assistance, and wood repairs. Training and qualification for tasks such as forklift operation and spot welding may be required.

MTS seeks candidates with the ability to understand and apply policies, regulations, and union contracts, communicate clearly and effectively, and use good judgment in routine and emergency situations. Physical demands include walking, climbing, stooping, lifting up to 75 pounds, and wearing the appropriate work attire such as closed-toe boots. The ideal candidate has a flexible schedule and a valid California driver's license.

The position offers a wage of $22.01 per hour along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their families, sick leave, retirement plans, and wellness programs. Additional perks include employer-paid holidays, DMV licensing fees, free transit passes, gym membership reimbursements, and paid company training.

MTS is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The agency encourages veterans, military spouses, and individuals from all backgrounds to apply. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking stable employment in a supportive environment focused on safety, service, and community engagement.
