Job Description
The Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) is a federal agency dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of Americans by providing effective health and human services. Within HHS, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) administers national programs including Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children's Health Insurance Program. CMS plays a critically important role in ensuring these programs are well-managed and accessible to millions of Americans. The Office of Financial Management (OFM) within CMS provides fiscal oversight and administrative support services to ensure the agency operates efficiently and in compliance with federal regulations. Within OFM, the Front Office's Travel Concierge Team supports high-level officials in managing their official travel requirements with precision and professionalism.
The position of Travel Concierge, classified as GS-0343-13, is a senior role within this team and serves as the authoritative travel liaison for CMS political appointees and Senior Executive Service (SES) members. This role is essential for facilitating complex travel arrangements and resolving immediate or emergency travel issues for some of the highest-ranking officials within CMS. The Travel Concierge is responsible for interpreting federal travel regulations in situations where standardized guidance may not exist, necessitating a deep knowledge of federal travel policies combined with analytical skills to tailor solutions to unique circumstances.
The incumbent in this role will be responsible for processing travel authorizations and vouchers through government-wide systems, ensuring adherence to negotiated fares, prescribed per diem rates, and approved lodging. The Travel Concierge prepares, reviews, and amends travel documents concerning highly complex travel schedules, including multi-leg itineraries and last-minute changes. The position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and a high degree of organizational skill to manage a dynamic travel schedule efficiently.
Employment is designated as OTHER, emphasizing the specialized nature of this position within the federal workforce. The Travel Concierge operates at a GS-13 level, which reflects considerable experience and responsibility. Candidates must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 federal grade level, showcasing competency in managing official travel challenges and the use of federal travel systems for complex arrangements.
This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring that CMS political leaders and SES members can fulfill their duties without travel-related disruptions. By maintaining high standards of accuracy and responsiveness, the Travel Concierge contributes to the overall effectiveness and operational integrity of CMS.
