Job Description
Baker Commodities, Inc. is a well-established company with a rich history spanning over 80 years in the rendering industry. This privately owned corporation operates multiple manufacturing facilities strategically located throughout the United States, enabling it to provide high-quality products and services on a global scale. The company's success is largely due to its dedicated and outstanding employees who uphold the values of quality, service, innovation, and integrity. These core principles have helped Baker Commodities maintain its position as one of the world's premier rendering companies, delivering excellence in everything from product manufacture to customer engagement.
Baker Commodities places a strong emphasis on employee development and operational excellence, offering a work environment that fosters growth, safety, and respect. The company is committed to equal opportunity and affirmative action, ensuring fair treatment for all employees and applicants. This dedication to diversity and inclusion reflects Baker Commodities' broader commitment to corporate social responsibility and ethical business practices.
The role available is for a Commercial Vehicle Driver, specializing in the safe and timely operation of company vehicles to collect, transport, and deliver products. This position is critical to the efficient functioning of Baker Commodities' supply chain and requires a conscientious individual who prioritizes safety, compliance, and professionalism. The driver will be responsible for operating vehicles on designated routes, ensuring the mechanical and safety readiness of the equipment, and maintaining accurate records in accordance with state and federal regulations.
This position demands adherence to a high standard of safety, including compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) rules. Candidates must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and current DOT medical card. Experience with manual transmission vehicles and endorsements for tanker and doubles are preferred, depending on the assigned vehicle. A minimum of two years of commercial vehicle driving experience with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) is ideal, although less experienced applicants may have the opportunity to complete an entry-level driver program.
Daily responsibilities include conducting thorough vehicle inspections to confirm that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are clean and functional; collecting and verifying delivery instructions; planning and adjusting routes to maximize efficiency; loading and unloading cargo with specialized equipment when necessary; and communicating professionally with customers, supervisors, and coworkers. Drivers must also maintain logs related to working hours, vehicle service, fuel consumption, and other relevant data, all while adhering to company procedures and standards.
Physical demands of this role include prolonged periods of seated driving, frequent communication, movement of materials up to 60 pounds, and occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions and hazardous materials necessitating personal protective equipment. This position usually involves local travel with less than 5% overnight travel and may require overtime or alternate scheduling depending on business needs.
Joining Baker Commodities means becoming part of a legacy company that values long-term employee relationships, safety, and quality service. If you are a dedicated, safety-minded individual with a passion for truck driving and a desire to work for a respected leader in the industry, this role offers an excellent career opportunity within a supportive and established environment. Baker Commodities provides a workplace where your skills make a tangible impact on company success and customer satisfaction, supported by a culture of fairness and respect.
