Job Description
Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is a premier full-service acute care medical facility located in the rapidly growing Woodlands area of Texas. Opened in June 2017, this 725,000-square-foot hospital offers a wide range of high-quality health services that parallel those found at Houston Methodist's flagship hospital in the Texas Medical Center. Situated at the intersection of Interstate 45 and Texas State Highway 242, the campus includes two medical office buildings housing specialized centers such as a Breast Care Center, Cancer Center, infusion center, heart and vascular services, neurology, orthopedics and sports medicine, rehabilitation, wellness services, outpatient laboratory, and various multispecialty physician practices. In January 2022, the hospital completed a $250 million expansion known as Healing Tower, which added 106 beds focused on medical-surgical and women's services along with nine new operating rooms. This expansion also enhanced the endoscopy, emergency, and diagnostic imaging departments with state-of-the-art neurodiagnostic and interventional centers. Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital prides itself on its commitment to delivering compassionate patient care combined with the latest medical technology and innovations. As part of the renowned Houston Methodist system, the hospital upholds rigorous standards for safety, quality, and patient satisfaction, offering an environment that supports professional growth and teamwork. They are an Equal Opportunity Employer, dedicated to fostering diversity and inclusion across their workforce.
The role of Transporter on the evening PRN (Pro Re Nata) shift at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is essential in providing timely, safe, and compassionate patient transportation services throughout the hospital complex. The Transporter position is responsible for moving acute, intensive, and critical care patients by wheelchair, transcart, stretcher, or bed between various care areas including diagnostic testing, therapeutic areas, clinics, physician offices, admissions, and discharges. This role supports the interprofessional healthcare team by ensuring efficient patient flow and high-quality service during transfers. The transporter must be knowledgeable about handling patients with safety measures in mind, including the operation of mobility aids, IV pumps, and equipment like the Hover Mat/Jack to prevent patient falls during lifts and transfers. Effective communication and collaboration with nursing staff and coworkers are critical as the transporter coordinates transport needs, communicates delays, and ensures clear documentation according to departmental protocols.
In addition to patient transport, the Transporter may be called upon to deliver patient room furnishings, transport empty beds when other staff are unavailable, and maintain cleanliness and safety by properly disinfecting equipment before and after use. The role demands a strong emphasis on infection control, patient privacy, and adherence to safety regulations. The Transporter also contributes to improving overall patient satisfaction through prompt service and professionalism. This position requires a certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association within 90 days of employment and preferably prior experience in customer service or patient transportation. The shift is scheduled for evenings and operates on an on-call basis during emergencies, reflecting the hospital's commitment to responsive, around-the-clock patient care. Wearing scrubs is mandatory while performing the duties, with departmental approval for any other attire needs. This opportunity offers a rewarding experience working in a supportive and innovative healthcare environment dedicated to excellence in patient care and team development.
