Job Requirements
- Paramedic training required
- Minimum two years of work experience as a Paramedic
- CA Paramedic license required
- NREMT/Paramedic certification preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Familiarity with EMTALA regulations
- Ability to use radio communications and emergency dispatch procedures
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to handle stress and multitask
- Commitment to confidentiality
- Ability to read and interpret maps and weather data
Job Qualifications
- Paramedic training
- Two years of progressively responsible work experience as a Paramedic
- CA Paramedic license required
- NREMT/Paramedic certification preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Understanding of EMTALA and related regulations
- Familiarity with third-party payer requirements preferred
- Proficient in radio communications and emergency medical dispatch
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Strong organizational skills for multitasking and meeting deadlines
- Calmness under pressure and sound judgment
- Effective speaking and writing skills
Job Duties
- Conducts initial telephone intake for patient transfer requests
- Receives and coordinates incoming calls and teleconferences among physicians, nurses, and transport staff
- Operates multi-line telephones, two-way radios, and related communication systems
- Coordinates with Patient Placement staff and physicians to identify appropriate receiving services
- Provides positive customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff
- Maintains databases on referrals and hospital locations, interprets maps for emergency and trauma transport
- Serves as communication liaison between Life Flight, transport crews, medical teams, and facilities
- Responds to emergency transport calls and dispatches medical crews
- Maintains records and prepares reports on patient transfers
- Monitors and interprets weather and flight systems related to transport missions
- Reviews patient information to assess acuity and medical necessity
- Consults with admitting physicians and coordinates with hospital staff for transfer decisions
- Coordinates transport mode based on patient acuity
- Documents all patient acceptance and transfer processes in electronic medical records
