Job Requirements
- Paramedic training required
- Two years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience as paramedic
- Valid CA paramedic license
- NREMT/paramedic certification preferred
- Ability to operate multi-line telephone and radio communication systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Familiarity with EMTALA and related healthcare regulations
- Strong interpersonal and coordination skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and apply sound judgment
- Ability to work night shifts for 12-hour rotations
- Availability for 36 scheduled weekly hours
Job Qualifications
- Paramedic training

- CA paramedic license
- NREMT/paramedic certification preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Understanding of EMTALA regulations
- Familiarity with third-party payer requirements and regulations
- Advanced knowledge of radio communications and emergency dispatch procedures
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work under pressure
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
Job Duties
- Conducts initial telephone intake of information regarding patient transfer requests
- Receives incoming calls and coordinates teleconferences with physicians, flight/transport nurses, referral sources, and receiving staff
- Operates multi-line telephones, two-way radios, computer databases, and mapping systems to support medical patient transport
- Collaborates with Patient Placement and physicians to identify appropriate receiving services
- Promotes positive customer service and ensures timely dispatch of transport requests
- Maintains database of referral sources and hospital locations
- Serves as liaison between Life Flight crews, medical teams, and referring/receiving facilities
- Responds to emergency transport calls and dispatches Life Flight medical crews
- Prepares and maintains records and reports concerning patient transfers
- Monitors weather, flight systems, and communication equipment related to air transports
- Reviews patient information to determine transfer necessity and acuity
- Consults with admitting physicians on medical necessity
- Coordinates transport mode based on patient acuity
- Documents and tracks patient acceptance processes in the electronic medical records system
