Job Description
Located in Vacaville, our Transmission Grid Operations Training department plays a crucial role in supporting the broader Transmission Operations team, ensuring regulatory compliance and risk management within this vital infrastructure segment. Transmission Grid Operations Training coordinates efforts across multiple teams to deliver quality training programs, emergency simulation drills, and continuing education that help maintain operational excellence in the electric grid sector. It serves as a central hub for resource coordination, managing initiatives and projects that uphold industry standards and drive continuous improvement. The department’s work ensures that transmission operators and dispatchers are well-prepared to manage the demands and challenges of the electric grid, reacting efficiently to dynamic situations, and maintaining grid reliability and safety.
This role, the Training and Simulation Specialist - Senior Assessment, is designed to support the development and delivery of comprehensive training programs essential for System Dispatchers, Transmission System Operators, and apprentices within Transmission Grid Operations. The specialist assists with curriculum development, training sessions, and the creation of technology-based learning tools, including simulator-based training that mimics real-life grid operating conditions. A vital part of this position is facilitating realistic training scenarios via the company’s computer-based simulator, BRICK, and additional training simulators that prepare candidates for real-time electric grid operations. The specialist also supports system restoration exercises and provides guidance aligned with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Continuing Education requirements, ensuring trainees meet stringent industry certification standards.
In addition to training delivery, this role is responsible for evaluating learning outcomes through assessments and simulations, recommending changes for curriculum improvements, and supporting apprentice progression through competency evaluations and feedback mechanisms. The Training and Simulation Specialist collaborates extensively with various departments and subject matter experts, helping to secure the necessary resources such as training materials and facilities to enhance learner experience and program effectiveness. The role demands competence in managing complex training systems, facilitating multi-modal communication, and contributing to the safety and efficiency of Transmission Grid Operations through advanced educational strategies.
The wage rate for this role starts at $89.62 per hour and reflects multiple considerations such as educational background, relevant experience, certifications, and geographic location. This is an hourly position subject to collectively bargained wage rates and increases, offering competitive compensation aligned with industry standards. This opportunity is ideal for professionals passionate about power systems training and development, bringing technical expertise and a commitment to continuous learning in an evolving energy landscape.
