Job Description

Westover School, located in Middlebury, Connecticut, is a prestigious gender-inclusive boarding and day school serving students in grades 9 through 12. Established with a commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment, Westover emphasizes close student-adult relationships combined with a shared sense of responsibility. The school believes strongly that young people thrive best where expectations are clear, care is consistent, and a profound sense of belonging is intentionally fostered. This philosophy is deeply embedded across all facets of the school community, from academics to residential life, creating a well-rounded experience for every student. Westover’s Office of Community Life plays a pivotal role in shaping the student experience, working to embody the school's values of compassion, sound judgment, and community care within the residential school environment, making it a vibrant place for growth and learning.

The Traditions & Activities Coordinator position is a vital full-time, 10-month residential role within the Student Life department at Westover School. Reporting to the Director of Community Life & Culture and the Assistant Director of Community Life, this role is central to designing, coordinating, and implementing a diverse array of student activities and cherished school traditions. The coordinator will ensure that community programming remains vibrant, inclusive, and thoughtfully organized, fostering a strong sense of connection, celebration, and belonging among students through shared experiences that are meaningful and memorable. This role demands a passionate professional capable of working collaboratively with student leaders, faculty, community life staff, and alumni to maintain and develop traditions that resonate with the current student body.

Key responsibilities include leading initiatives that support student engagement in activities both on and off campus, managing vital events such as monthly Community Dinners, and partnering with various stakeholders to build inclusive leadership and affinity group opportunities. The position also requires residential duties as a dorm parent, coaching responsibilities for an assigned season, and serving as a visible, accessible presence to students outside of typical school hours. You will be at the heart of fostering community spirit and school pride by overseeing longstanding traditions and nurturing student leadership groups dedicated to school culture, including Spirit Heads and Student Heads of School. This role is ideal for someone who values building relationships, facilitating meaningful experiences, and contributing to a dynamic educational community.

The Traditions & Activities Coordinator must be comfortable with a dynamic work schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts, reflecting the nature of residential life. The role requires excellent organizational skills, flexibility, strong interpersonal communication, and a deep commitment to student well-being and community inclusion. A bachelor’s degree is preferred, along with experience working with adolescents in residential or youth development settings. Westover offers a salary range of $45,000 to $55,000 commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package including health, vision, and life insurance, dental reimbursement, a retirement plan with employer contributions, professional development support, and on-campus housing.
