Job Requirements

  • Must be free of all communicable diseases
  • Must be at least 16 years old if working full-time
  • Ability to stand, stoop, crouch, kneel, balance, finger, grasp, push, pull, reach, or walk
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing 35 to 50 pounds
  • Ability to exert force to draw, drag, or tug objects continuously
  • Ability to comply with safety and sanitation regulations
  • Ability to adapt to changing workplace requirements
  • Ability to attend staff meetings and in-service training sessions

Job Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a similar working environment preferred
  • Current Food Handlers certification preferred or must be acquired within first 90 days
  • Ability to perform simple arithmetic and measurement conversions
  • Ability to understand and prepare therapeutic diets
  • Ability to perform cleaning and waste disposal as per policy
  • Ability to assist in proper care and use of kitchen equipment
  • Ability to follow infection control and exposure control procedures
  • Ability to speak and read English and follow directions
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff and guests
  • Ability to work any shift as directed

Job Duties

  • Inspect and clean food preparation and serving areas to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices
  • Ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by regulating kitchen equipment
  • Check food freshness and quality, rotate stock, and avoid food waste
  • Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes
  • Wash, peel, and cut various foods including meats, vegetables, fruits, and fish
  • Test foods for doneness using methods like tasting and smelling
  • Portion, arrange, garnish food, and serve to waiters or patrons
  • Meet meal schedules and dietary requirements for residents, staff, and guests
  • Assist dishwashers and servers when necessary
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies and procedures
  • Operate computer software for meal information recording
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Executive Chef
