One of the prominent venues managed by Oak View Group is the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, located in Tallahassee, Florida. The Civic Center is a vibrant multipurpose facility featuring a 12,500-seat arena, 34 luxury suites, 476 club seats, over 54,000 square feet of meeting and exhibition space, and the Spotlight Grille, an arena view restaurant. This arena is home to Florida State University's Men’s and Women’s basketball teams and hosts a diverse range of events including music concerts, trade shows, large catered functions, receptions, religious services, and classes. The Line Cook position at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center is a part-time role with an hourly wage of $16.00 to $18.00. This role offers individuals the opportunity to work alongside seasoned chefs in a fast-paced, high-energy environment that demands culinary excellence and teamwork. A Line Cook is responsible for preparing high-quality, fresh food products efficiently for guests throughout the venue. The duties include working areas such as buffet lines, station serving, and catering for suites during events including concerts and sports games involving the FSU basketball teams.

This role is essential for ensuring an exceptional food service experience that matches the prestigious reputation of the venue and the Oak View Group brand. The Line Cook must maintain strict adherence to sanitation, health, and safety standards in all work areas while also ensuring food is properly cooked and presented. This position requires excellent attendance and availability to work during scheduled events, which are pivotal to the venue's operations.

Job Requirements

  • Valid food handling certificate if required by state and federal regulations
  • Previous culinary experience preferred
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, team environment
  • Availability to work scheduled events
  • Excellent attendance record

Job Qualifications

  • Previous cook or prep cook experience preferred
  • Able to operate standard kitchen equipment, including the broiler, steamer, convection oven, mixer, meat slicer, and chef knife
  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff, and guests in a clear, business-like, and respectful manner
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment
  • Possess a valid food handling certificate if required by state and federal regulations
  • ServSafe preferred

Job Duties

  • Responsible for providing high-quality, fresh food products in a timely manner for delivery to guests
  • Prepares hot and cold foods following company recipes and portioning requirements
  • Participates as a team player with specific responsibilities as related to preparation, excellent service, and delivery of product
  • Responsible for reporting any maintenance required for kitchen equipment
  • Maintains sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas
  • Responsible for observing and testing foods to ensure proper cooking
  • Responsible for portioning, arranging, and garnishing food plates for delivery to guests
  • Responsible for consulting with Executive Chef, Sous Chef or Lead Line Cook to plan menus and estimate expected food consumption
  • Show demonstrated ability to meet the company standard for excellent attendance
