Job Description
Oak View Group (OVG) is recognized globally as an industry leader in premium live entertainment infrastructure and services. Established in 2015, OVG boasts a robust platform that encompasses venue development, comprehensive venue management, hospitality offerings, and innovative sponsorship sales. The company manages an impressive portfolio of seven world-class owned venues, and also supports an elite roster of clients, including some of the most iconic arenas, stadiums, convention centers, music festivals, performing arts centers, and cultural institutions across four continents. This global footprint ensures a dynamic and impactful presence in the live entertainment industry, driven by a commitment to excellence and innovation.
One of the prestigious venues within OVG's portfolio is the Lexington Opera House, located in the heart of downtown Lexington, Kentucky. This historically significant venue, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has been a cultural cornerstone since its opening in 1887. Designed by Oscar Cobb following the destruction of the original theater by a fire, the Lexington Opera House has evolved through various entertainment phases—from a grand theatre to a vaudeville house and then a movie theater—before being lovingly restored by local philanthropists. Today, it serves nearly 85,000 patrons annually with a diverse programming mix that includes ballet, opera, family-friendly productions, comedy, music, and acclaimed national Broadway tours. With fewer than 1,000 seats, it offers an intimate yet vibrant cultural experience cherished by the community.
The House Manager role at the Lexington Opera House is a vital position that embodies the public face of the theater. This part-time role pays $18.00 per hour and offers valuable benefits such as a 401(k) savings plan and matching. The House Manager is charged with overseeing the smooth operation of the house during performances, including the lobby and auditorium areas. This individual is responsible for welcoming guests, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout their visit, addressing patron inquiries and concerns, and fostering a welcoming atmosphere.
Beyond guest services, the House Manager plays a critical leadership role, supervising volunteers and front-of-house staff who serve as primary points of contact for audience members. Given that volunteers and ushers are often the first and most frequent theater representatives that guests encounter, the House Manager ensures their training, appearance, and conduct meet the high standards expected at this premier cultural institution. Duties also include managing volunteer recruitment, scheduling, and training; coordinating theater operations such as building opening and closing; conducting show briefings to convey important information; and collaborating closely with other theater staff, including the box office manager, technical coordinator, and event coordinator, to facilitate seamless production experiences.
This position requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a proactive attitude to maintain the theater’s reputation for exceptional patron service and operational excellence. It offers a unique opportunity to be part of a historic and vibrant performing arts venue, contributing directly to the cultural life of Lexington while working within a global leader in live entertainment infrastructure. The position remains open until July 24, 2026, inviting qualified candidates passionate about the performing arts and audience engagement to apply and become integral members of the Oak View Group community.
