PeoplesBank Arena is Connecticut's top destination for sports and entertainment, boasting a seating capacity of over 15,000. It serves as the home venue for the storied UConn Women's and Men's Basketball teams, both of which are multiple-time National Champions led by Hall of Fame coaches Geno Auriemma and Dan Hurley. Each year, PeoplesBank Arena attracts millions of visitors for a variety of events including concerts, family shows, ice skating extravaganzas, consumer events, and trade shows. The role of Events Manager at PeoplesBank Arena offers a full-time opportunity with an annual salary range of $60,000 to $70,000. The position involves managing all aspects of assigned events from inception through completion, including coordination among facility staff and serving as the primary liaison to all users. The Events Manager will report to the Director of Events and play a critical role in ensuring successful execution of diverse programming, including sports games, concerts, and other live events. This role demands strong organizational skills, communication, and a customer-centric approach to managing multiple stakeholders and operational teams.

Key responsibilities include advanced event planning, managing event logistics, overseeing event personnel, coordinating with various departments including security, marketing, audio/visual, custodial, and food and beverage services. The Events Manager will prepare detailed event documentation such as layouts, diagrams, and schedules, handle client meetings and requests, and ensure compliance with safety regulations. This role also involves staff guidance, problem resolution during events, financial estimate preparation, contract execution, and post-event evaluation. The position requires working a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet event demands.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in event management, sports administration, public relations, marketing, business administration, or related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience supporting events in public assembly facilities or related environments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to lift heavy objects occasionally
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Willingness to obtain CPR certification if not already possessed

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in direct support of events in a public assembly facility or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in event management, sports administration, public relations, marketing, business administration, or a related field
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
  • AutoCAD experience preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to occasionally lift heavy objects
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, and internet software
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a current CPR certificate preferred
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service even in stressful situations

Job Duties

  • Plan, service, and manage a variety of arena events including hockey games, basketball games, concerts, and family shows
  • Meet with facility clients in advance of events and assist in determining event needs
  • Provide information and direction to operations and support staff including audio/visual, telecommunications, set-up, custodial, maintenance, security, and marketing personnel
  • Prepare drawings, layouts, diagrams, instructions, setup requirements, and supporting documentation for each event and distribute them to appropriate staff
  • Submit service requests to appropriate departments to schedule event staff according to client requests
  • Meet with clients to resolve set-up changes and ensure compliance with fire, building, and safety codes
  • Serve as facility representative at events, enforce facility policies and procedures, identify and resolve event problems, and manage public complaints
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors, and facility users
  • Communicate with municipal officials to ensure security of patrons and smooth event operations
  • Assist in building preparation and post-show financial settlements
  • Guide and assist event staff in job performance and resolution of patron issues
  • Continuously improve operations and provide quality customer service
  • Execute event contracts and rental agreements
  • Act as liaison between facility users and staff
  • Prepare event evaluations and cost estimates
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Participate in internal and external committees
  • Assist with scheduling of union stagehands and emergency personnel
  • Coordinate with finance and other departments as needed
  • Serve as Manager on Duty as scheduled
  • Work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Perform other duties as required
