Job Description

The Donald L. Tucker Civic Center, located in Tallahassee, Florida, is one of the premier facilities managed by Oak View Group. This multifaceted venue boasts a 12,500-seat arena, 34 luxury suites, 476 club seats, and over 54,000 square feet of meeting and exhibition space. It also features the Spotlight Grille, an arena-view restaurant, adding to the venue’s appeal for sports, music events, trade shows, receptions, and many other large-scale functions. The arena is the proud home for Florida State University Men’s and Women’s basketball teams, known for its commanding home court advantage and vibrant atmosphere.

Oak View Group is currently seeking a part-time Culinary Baker to join their team at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center. This position requires a highly skilled and passionate individual who has experience working in quality-driven restaurants, hotels, or bakeries. The role is centered around assisting with large catering events, often hosting 2,000 or more guests, demanding both creativity and stellar execution in the bakery craft.

The Culinary Baker will work closely with culinary leadership to enhance the event offerings, ensuring that every baked good produced meets high standards of timing, presentation, and professionalism. The role is not only production-focused but also involves direct engagement with the public and kitchen teams, contributing to overall kitchen efficiency and quality control. This position is critical to the successful and profitable operation of the venue’s culinary program.

Candidates must demonstrate dedication, excellent attendance, and the flexibility to work a variable schedule including evenings and weekends. The pay range for this role is $20.00 to $25.00 per hour, with part-time benefits such as 401(k) savings plan and matching offered.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2-3+ years of experience in a quality-driven restaurant, hotel, or bakery
  • Valid food handling certificate (ServSafe)
  • Experience operating standard kitchen equipment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Job Qualifications

  • 2-3+ years of current or previous work in a quality-driven restaurant, hotel, or bakery
  • Someone who brings passion, creativity, and a standard of excellence to their craft
  • Able to operate standard kitchen equipment
  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff, and guests in a clear, business-like, and respectful manner, which focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic, and cooperative work environment
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment
  • Possess a valid food handling certificate (ServSafe) as required by state and federal regulations

Job Duties

  • Participate as a team player with specific responsibilities related to preparation, excellent service, and delivery of products
  • Collaborate with culinary leadership to enhance event offerings
  • Execute high-level production for large-scale events
  • Maintain exceptional standards of timing, presentation, and professionalism
  • Contribute ideas that help move our culinary program forward
  • Responsible for reporting any maintenance required for kitchen equipment
  • Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards in work areas
  • Responsible for observing and testing foods to ensure proper cooking
  • Responsible for consulting with Executive Chef and/or Sous Chef to plan the prep of estimated food consumption
  • Show demonstrated ability to meet the company standard for excellent attendance
