The Catering Barback role is a part-time position based at the Iowa Events Center, offering an hourly wage of $17.00 plus tips. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring that bars are expertly set up and stocked for various catered events, contributing directly to a smooth and efficient customer service experience. The Catering Barback is responsible for preparing bar areas prior to events, handling product receipt and storage, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in a fast-paced environment.
This position requires flexibility as work schedules are event-based, often including nights and weekends. Responsibilities encompass moving and setting up bars according to the Banquet Event Order (BEO), transporting all necessary beverage products including beer, wine, liquor, garnishes, ice, and mixers, and managing inventory accurately with appropriate transfer paperwork. The Catering Barback will also assist bartenders as needed, helping ensure guests receive responsible service in compliance with state and federal alcohol regulations.

Job Requirements
- Must have six months of experience in a barback or similar role in the food service industry
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a dynamic event environment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
- Must be able to lift and move beverages and equipment
- Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe working environment
Job Qualifications
- Six months' experience bar-backing or in a similar position in a restaurant or related food industry preferred
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Detail-oriented, able to multi-task, and effectively prioritize in a continuously changing event environment
- Ability to be self-directed on tasks as well as work with a team
- Ability to work a flexible event-based schedule including nights and weekends
Job Duties
- Responsible for having bars moved and set up according to the Banquet Event Order on time for catered events
- Accountable for all received inventory and product storage while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized bar area
- Report all unsafe working conditions and injuries immediately to manager on duty
- Transport all required beverages to the bars for catering events including beer, wine, liquor, garnishes, ice, and mixer products
- Responsible for prep, stock, and re-stock of all assigned bars including changing out assigned kegs
- Responsible for completing accurate transfer paperwork with bartender every time an item is stocked
- Responsible for cleaning, sanitizing, and organizing work spaces as well as garbage disposal
